6 Bowel Cancer UK Bowel cancer is currently the third most common cancer in Scotland and the second biggest cancer killer. Over 3,700 people in Scotland are diagnosed with bowel cancer each year, and around 1,500 people die from the disease. However, it doesn t have to be this way, as bowel cancer is treatable and curable, especially when caught early. If diagnosed at the earliest stage, over 98% of people will survive bowel cancer. Sadly, less than 20% of cases in Scotland are actually diagnosed this early. That s why we re dedicated to raising awareness through our award-winning health promotion volunteer programme. What will I learn? Our volunteers will deliver a presentation on bowel cancer and highlight the following key awareness and prevention messages: Signs and symptoms learn the key facts about bowel cancer Healthy lifestyle and prevention - tips on how to reduce the risk of bowel cancer NHS Bowel Screening learn about the NHS bowel screening programme and the importance of taking the test awareness materials will also be available, and our volunteers are happy to answer any questions you might have. Very often our volunteers have a personal connection to bowel cancer, so they have a great deal of knowledge and experience to share. Visit website & fill out the quick form: Or scotadmin@bowelcanceruk.org.uk Or call

The volunteers will spread the breast health awareness message across these groups through 15-minute talks. The talks will cover the important statistics of breast cancer, the sign and symptoms, the risks, dispel some of the myths and discuss the Scottish Breast screening approach.our Volunteers would be delighted to attend health days or deliver tailored and specific talks to your staff. 10 Carers Trust A carer is anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without their support an estimated 1 in 8 of the population.many carers carry out their caring role whilst still holding down full or part time employment. Scotland s 65+ population is projected to rise by 21% between 2006 and 2016 and by 62% by It stands to reason therefore that a great many more employees will find themselves juggling the demands of caring with the demands of employment. What will the session cover: Carers Trust Scotland would like to offer employers and employees the chance to come together and discuss the issues of carers in employment. In the session we will cover: Who is a carer? The effects of caring - this will look at the impact on the health and wellbeing of a carer as a result of caring role. The average time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis is a staggering 13 years which means those with undiagnosed and untreated coeliacdisease are at a high risk of their performance and attendance at work being disrupted.
