Join us for the Kirking of the Council 2016 The Kirking of the Council will take place on Sunday 11 th September. Signpost would like to invite voluntary organisation's to join us during the parade to represent the Voluntary Sector. 2 We continue to work with potential volunteers to get the best possible opportunity to suit the individual. We appreciate the variety and enterprising ideas you have for roles within your organisations to suit all interests and abilities. Keeping us up to date is vital if we are to provide an effective service. We have organisation registration and opportunity registration forms which allow you to update when required and we would ask you to get in touch to see what records we hold and what is active. Volunteer Managers Network Thursday 25 th August 1.30pm 3.30pm Hear from one of our young volunteers and what Saltire has meant to them A chance to network and share ideas Getting the most from Signpost Volunteer Friendly Award Working on the Volunteer Friendly Award or interested in getting started? Volunteer Friendly helps you to take a systematic look at what you do and how you do it. It offers a flexible approach which allows your group to work at its own pace, with full support from your local volunteer centre. It is based on the national standard investing in Volunteers (IiV) but is designed for small organisations which may not be ready to undertake IiV yet, or which may be looking for a stepping stone towards IiV. Walking Bus Interested in being a stop for walking tours? Interested in joining us on a tour? When talking to groups about volunteering, the idea of group visits to voluntary organisation was met with great enthusiasm. Many people do not know what is involved and are concerned about making that first contact. A short visit will give an indication of the opportunities available and where volunteers can match up their skills, knowledge and personality. 3 Funding & Support Big Lottery Fund Scotland - It s always worth checking the Big Lottery Fund website to see what grants are available for community organisations. The Big Lottery Funds Funding Finder - BIG s funding finder helps you identify the most suitable funding Programme for your project from amongst the range of funding streams that BIG provides. Funding Scotland - SCVO has developed this website to enable you to search for relevant funding Community Funds - This page provides a list of Scottish Government funds available to community organisations, with links to further information. 4 Funding & Support Woman s Fund Scotland This fund re-opened for applications on Monday 18 th July. The Woman s Fund makes grants to projects across Scotland that support woman s development, self-sufficiency and social and economic equality. Established in 2002, the Fund has distributed 1.4 million in grants to over 550 community groups and local charities run by or for women. Applications to the fund should be made by the closing date of 28 September with a decision given in mid December. Development Grants Development Grants are available from the Scottish Government s Climate Challenge Fund to help community-led organisations develop an application for further climate action funding or to support peer-to-peer learning activities that build their capacity to tackle climate change. Development Grants of up to 1,500 are available now and keep Scotland Beautiful will consider applications on a monthly basis. You can read more about Development Grants and apply at - Volant Charitable Trust The Volant Charitable Trust invites applications from registered charities and other not for profit organisations based in Scotland for projects which will make a real difference in alleviating social deprivation for women and children. 5 Funding & Support Health Walk Grants Paths for All funds projects in order to improve Scotland s Health through the delivery of local community health walk & workplace walking projects. We invest in community projects which build local capacity, delivering a volunteer led solution to improve physical activity levels. There are two levels of grant available: A small grant of up to 5,000 A large grant of up to 30,000 Who can apply Constituted groups, organisations and workplaces can apply for funds. You do not need to be a registered charity. Private sector organisations may apply as long as the benefits to inactive people are made clear. Public sector bodies may also apply for funding. *Please note: if you have previously received grant funding from us, the large grant limit is 20,000. What kind of work will we fund The fund supports a range of work and we welcome new and innovative approaches as well as tested models of delivery. 6 Funding & Support Pre-Application Support Fund (PASF) Transport Scotland s Pre-Application Support Fund is now open for applications. PASF is offering funding of up to 10,000 to help public, community and third sector organisations develop ideas for The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Low Carbon Travel & Transport (LCTT) Challenge Fund. The LCTT Challenge Fund is anticipated to go live in November / December 2016 and will provide capital funding to support the development of hubs which focus on active travel or low carbon transport (and associated path networks) or which offer an integrated approach to both. For more information on the Support Fund please visit The Big Lottery Fund The Big Lottery have launched their Celebrate Programme and are offering grants of between 500 and 5,000 for groups to hold one-off events or activities which celebrate their local community. You could also celebrate something from your community s history or a local hero. Or maybe it s a chance to bring people together to get to know their neighbours better. 7 Funding & Support The Robertson Trust have announced their Giving Strategy The document sets out our future priorities when awarding funds through their open grants programme and describes their three newly-developed funding strands: Care and Wellbeing Strengthening Communities Realising Potential You can access the document here - Or check out their website - Support for unpaid carers at Raigmore Hospital Unpaid carers can now access catering discount of 50% in staff canteens within Raigmore Hospital from 8th August This system has been in operation in the Children s Ward for a number of years and now recognises the valuable contribution that unpaid carers make during their visits to the Hospital. Wristbands will be supplied by ward staff, free of charge, for a limited time and ward staff will add the ward number and the name of the person wearing the wristband on a daily basis. 8 Highland Autism Network informal open event: At: Albion House 28 Ardconnel Terrace Inverness IV2 3AE CHANGE Summer Drop-in With scones, strawberries and cream Including gluten free options Thursday, 18th August 1pm - 4pm You are warmly invited to join us for a relaxed afternoon to meet other autistic people, their carers and local autism connected professionals. There will be no formal presentations and you can come for all or part of the event. There will be displays about the Highland Autism Strategy Group, who is involved and the work they are doing. We will also have a flipchart page addressed as an open letter to the Strategy Group. You may write on it any questions or comments, good or bad, about services for autistic people in Highland. It will be given to the group at its next meeting on 30th August.
