2 WHAT IS LCADV? Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence is the federally designated state-wide coalition of shelters, non-residential programs and individuals working to end domestic violence in Louisiana. We represent rural, urban and suburban areas. Our programs support people of all racial, social, ethnic, religious and economic groups. We oppose violence as a means of control over others and support equality in relationships. OUR PURPOSE IS TO ELIMINATE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN LOUISIANA BY: ' Providing training and technical assistance to member domestic violence programs and allied professionals working with victims of domestic violence. ' Supporting and advocating on behalf of member domestic violence programs. ' Participating in state planning and resource allocation in partnership with state policy makers. ' Providing legislative advocacy on the state and national levels. ' Working to create social change and to improve systems responses. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROGRAMS IN LOUISIANA OFFER 24-HOUR ASSISTANCE through hotlines, emergency transportation, emergency and extended stay shelter, counseling, advocacy, legal advocacy, referrals to other programs, financial assistance, child care, special programs for children and training for professionals in various fields who assist victims of domestic violence all in the interest of helping survivors establish independent, violence-free lives.
3 WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? 1 in 4 adult women will become a victim of domestic abuse in her lifetime. (CDC 2010) 15.5 million children are exposed to domestic violence every year. (McDonald, Jouriles, Ramisetty-Mikler, et al. 2006) The medical care, mental health services, and lost productivity cost of domestic violence is $8.3 billion a year. (CDC 2003) In a one-day study by the National Network to End Domestic Violence, 449 victims of abuse received shelter or transitional housing in Louisiana. (NNEDV 2015) In 2016, Louisiana ranked second in the nation for the rate of women murdered by men, with a female homicide rate of twice the national average. (Violence Policy Center 2016) LOUISIANA DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HOTLINE This project was supported by Subgrant Number 3237 awarded by the Office for Victims of Crime, U.S. Department of Justice, through the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement.
