1 A Guide to the NDTi The National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTi) works to make life better for people who need support to live their lives. We want to make sure that everyone has an equal chance to live the kind of life they want to and take part fully in their own community. We do not try to make a profit from our work. The National Development Team (NDT) and the Older People s Programme (OPP) joined in April 2009 to become NDTi. + = Most of the work we do (and are known for) is about older people, people with learning disabilities and people with mental health problems. We are interested in how all citizens are getting on in our communities. Page 1 of 10

2 We work with people who use services, families, staff and managers to help services and support to be better. This includes work on: where people live what they do in the day how people get choice and control better access to healthcare Page 2 of 10

3 We help people to plan and guide how people are supported We train people about how to: be part of the community be a better manager get real jobs plan services be person centred. This leaflet will tell you more about NDTi and on the back page you ll find out who s who and how to contact us. Page 3 of 10

4 Areas of work There are five main areas of work for NDTi : Community inclusion Helping communities to include everyone. Personalisation and person centred approaches Putting people, with their families, friends and contacts, at the heart of making decisions. Making sure that people have choice and control over how they live and the support they have to do this. Jobs and paid work Helping to support real jobs, with proper rates of pay, which are open to everyone. Housing and home Making sure that people have choice and control over where and how they live. 5 Transitions and life changes Helping people to plan for and deal with times when their life changes. Important areas in our work are : Families making sure they are included as partners Planning and Buying Services helping people who do this to use public money well People s voice making sure that people are involved and listened to Page 5 of 10

6 Health helping the NHS to be person centred Leadership helping people to plan and manage change Working with us The NDTi helps to make change happen change that leads to people having better lives. Most of our work comes from contracts or grants from organisations (these can be can be government departments, councils, part of the NHS, voluntary organisations or private companies). We work in five main ways: Policy development and advice We help organisations to make better policies and put these into practice. Development consultancy We work with organisations to help them understand difficult areas, then plan and carry out changes. Page 6 of 10

7 Training and development We train staff in new ways of working and making change. Research and evaluation We carry out work which helps us to understand if projects are working or not and how and why changes are happening. Events We plan and run conferences and other events to help share what we re learning through our work and learn from others. We work in partnership with organisations and people to meet clear goals. Our projects can be very short (sometimes a few days) or we can work with people over a much longer time (sometimes several years).
