1 2008 May Newsletter Cossayuna Lake Special Interest Items: Pavilion reservations call Eileen Harvesting and Membership responses are due. May 28 th is the Chemical Application. Individual Highlights: The President s Letter Donna Hopkins Welcome back to the Summer Season 2008 at Cossayuna!! As in the past newsletters, I have reminded everyone the importance of attending the summer CLIA meetings that we have scheduled. I know as well as anyone how busy we all are and the last thing we want to do is go to a meeting on our weekends at the lake. However, those meetings, like the ones during the work week, are equally important. The CLIA Officers and Board of Directors meet eight months out of the year to plan, prepare and carry out certain Association obligations for the good of the lake and the membership. It is necessary twice a year to have a Membership & Election meeting which is open to all members. This is a time for you to be actively involved in the decision making process of the CLIA. The Membership meeting is July 19 & the Election meeting is Aug.23 starting at 10:00 a.m. If you can t attend the whole meeting, any time that you can give is great! Please take note this year that we still have a very vital chair position available..that of FUNDRAISING. In the past fundraising has included such events as chicken bbq s, clam steams, bake sales, breakfasts and more. The Presidents letter is continued on page 3. Summer 2 Membership 2 Harvesting 2 Cash Flow 3 Events 4 Boater Safety 4 Fishing 4 Tournament 2007 Election 6 Meeting Minutes Safety Course 8 Remembrance 8 The Board 8 Chemical Application Joe Bravata The lake association has adopted a management plan that includes herbicide treatment during the year 2008 using the chemical 2,4-D. A permit has been requested from the Department of Environmental Conservation to use this chemical with the brand name of Navigate. The application will occur on the 28 th of May. Water restrictions: 24 hour restrictions are swimming, bathing and fishing. Three week restrictions are livestock watering, irrigation or spraying of crops and human water consumption. If you would like more information on the chemical, it is available for your review.. Any comments may be sent to: John Bennett, NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation, Region 5, Box 220 Hudson St. Ext., Warrensburg, NY As in years past, we think it will be necessary to provide strong support for a chemical program to control the overabundance of aquatic plants. Additional information is available in the January 2008 newsletter which can be accessed on the C.L.I.A. website.

2 Cossayuna Lake Page 2 of 8 Cossayuna Lake in Summer Summer events have always been a favorite on Cossayuna Lake. Past events have included music, dinner, dancing, fishing tournaments and more. Events such as these are so successful as they provide families an opportunity to enjoy an evening out with friends and neighbors. Upcoming events we may schedule this year could include Friday Night Doo-Wop Dinners, an Open Mic Nite, a Clam Steam, a monthly Dance, a Boater s Safety Course, Fishing Tournament, Chicken Barbeque, the Boat Parade and more. In addition to all of the fun times, some of these events provide the opportunity to raise funds to support the lake. Events such as the Doo- Wop dinners and the monthly Dances are a core way to obtain funding for lake management necessities. Thus far we do not have a Chairperson to head up the Fundraising Committee. We are actively seeking a volunteer or a team to provide the support needed to continue with the events that provide such a valuable source of income that helps the C.L.I.A maintain the lake and the pavilion. Call Donna at or to inquire about the position.. Membership Marie Smith Be sure to send in your harvesting application as soon as possible. I m happy to announce that we had our best year to date for 2007 membership in the CLIA. We closed out the year with 234 members; up 2 from Our fiscal year runs from Jan. 1 st through Dec. 31 st and it is time to submit your 2008 membership application. Membership cards will be mailed out upon receipt of your application and dues payment. Also a reminder to all that the 2008 list of all who support the lake through their membership and participation in or donations to the chemical and harvesting programs will be printed in the July or November newsletter. If everyone would reach out to their neighbors and encourage them to support the lake it would be a benefit to the entire lake community. Let s really try to bring the membership in 2008 up to 240 or more!! Harvesting Report Joe Bravata / Dan Rokjer The harvesting program will begin in mid May in the open waters of the lake to fulfill the town contracts. After the contracts have been fulfilled harvesting will begin for individual members that have opted to participate in the harvesting program. Open water harvesting began on May 16th. Please send in your application for harvesting along with your dues if you haven t already paid them. Bob Montanye will be the harvester operator and Tom Schultz will be the truck driver again this year. Any questions on the program can be directed to Joe Bravata (518) or Dan Rokjer (518)

3 Cossayuna Lake Page 3 of 8 Cash Flow Statement 2007 The President s Letter continued from page 1 If anyone is interested in putting on an event versus chairing the committee, that would be equally as beneficial. Perhaps we could get a few things chaired individually that would help with our fundraising efforts. Please contact me with any ideas. Fundraising last year contributed over $ for the association. Spread the word that we will be holding a Boaters Safety Course again this year. Peter Moore can be contacted at / or petermoore1@optonline.n et for further information. The course will give those an opportunity to learn the regulations regarding proper boating procedures, and to use that educational information to help keep our lake a safe place to continue to have fun. I look forward to seeing everyone again and to meet any new members either at the events or on the lake. Remember to enjoy the company of your friends and neighbors this season. If you have any questions at any time, feel free to call me at Donna
