3 PROGRAM OFFERINGS 2 When a loved one dies, life changes in profound and absolute ways. Nothing is the same and the entire world is different from this point forward. But, as time passes, grief will lead to healing as you find renewed meaning in life and learn to embrace your loved one s memory as part of your new world. The qualified, experienced and compassionate experts at Zusman Hospice are here to help guide you on your own, personal journey with a variety of support groups, programs and personalized services to meet the needs of people ZUSMAN hospice BEREAVEMENT SERVICES of all ages and at all stages of the healing process. Zusman Hospice bereavement programs and services are always free and open to the entire community. Services are provided in the strictest confidence and in compliance with all Health Information Portability and Accountability Act regulations. All programs will be held at Wexner Heritage Village and registration is required. This new normal often includes dramatic changes in your loved one, anticipatory grief and a world filled with questions and difficult decisions. This topic-driven group meets each month to provide caregivers support and education. Join us for all the sessions or choose those that best fit your unique situation. This program meets on the second Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8 pm. 4 The Grief Journey This six-week series is designed for those who are newly bereaved and those still struggling with the stages of grief and life after a loss. The series of group discussions will focus on understanding your grief, exploring your feelings of loss, understanding the needs of mourning, nurturing yourself and seeking reconciliation. There will be 4 sessions held throughout the year. You can choose to attend as many sessions as you need, but you do need to register for each session Choose a Session Choose either the Monday or Tuesday group Call to register and arrange a pre-screening For each session, there will be two independent groups meeting (one on Mondays and the other on Tuesdays). However, to maintain the cohesive nature of each group, participants should only attend at the day/time for which they are registered. 5 6 ART THERAPY GROUPS When words fail us or seem too overwhelming, art can provide an alternative way to express our emotions. With a focus on the process rather than the product, these groups provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment to explore your grief experience, develop new awareness and insights and grow toward healing. Join us for one program or come as often as you like. No art experience is required and, unless noted, all materials will be provided. To register for the programs listed on the following pages, please call Thursday, February 27, 6:30 8 pm Learn the basics and art of Zentangling, creating meaningful art while developing a sense of peace and relaxation. Prayer Flags Thursday, March 27, 12:30 2 pm Discover the Tibetan tradition of creating prayer flags for healing and memory as you create your own flag to honor a loved one. You may be invited to bring in additional materials from home at time of registration. Zen Garden Monday, April 7, 12:30 2 pm Create a small Zen garden and experience the serenity from creating and enjoying this small treasure. Fat Books adultszentangling Thursday, April 24, 6:30 8 pm Learn about the art of fat book making and create pages in memory of a loved one, based on a theme, or to serve as a collection for poems, mementos, prayers or keepsakes. Bring small keepsakes, photos, poems, sayings, scriptures or anything else you want that can be cut or altered to fit small 3x3 inch pages. Mandalas for Healing and Hope Thursday, June 26, 12:30 2 pm The process of creating this circular work can be meditation based and a way to release and refocus energy to reinstate a sense of calm and peace. Come create a mandala of your own to bring healing, strength,continuation and centering into your life. Materials will be provided, but you may bring in additional items to add to your work, including pictures, poems, fabrics, stickers, etc. 7
6 Memory Stones Thursday, September 18, 6:30 8 pm Stones have long represented a means of remembering and healing. Come create small healing stones that you can carry with you in memory of your loved one. Build Your Own Story Teller Monday, October 27, 6:30 8 pm Native American cultures create and use story tellers to pass on stories from mother to child or from generation to generation. Come work in clay to build your own story teller. Memory Tags Thursday, May 29, 6:30 8 pm Create and shrink a special design in the memory of your loved one. Memory tags can be used as jacket zipper pulls, backpack charms, pendants or bracelet charms. Designed for school-age children AND their adults. Dream Catchers Thursday, July 24, 6:30 8 pm A functional art form from Native American culture, the dream catchers serve to let the good hopes and dreams pass through while trapping the bad dreams and worries. For school-age children ONLY. Just for Teens Join us in a casual setting just for teens to come and share about losses they have experienced and how they are coping. The group will focus on peer-to-peer support and will be facilitated by professionals who will share coping strategies. 7 Coffee Talks with Zusman Hospice Chaplain Rabbi Debbie Lefton This series of informal conversations provides a safe, comfortable and supportive environment to discuss what Judaism has to say about life s most trying situations and difficult questions. This all-women group will explore topics that address the initial shock of becoming a widow, tools to rebuild your life and moving on within your new normal. Participants are invited to attend all or some of the programs. The group meets from 11 am to noon on the first Friday of the month. Please call to register. 8 Individual and Family Counseling The highly qualified professional social workers and grief counselors at Zusman Hospice are available to meet with individuals and families coping with the loss of a loved one. These services are provided at no cost and are available to those currently experiencing an end-of-life journey or whose loved one has already passed. Counseling services are provided in the strictest confidence and in compliance with all Health Information Portability and Accountability Act regulations. Coping Through the Holidays To discuss your unique situation with a counselor, please call Zusman Hospice at or zh@whv.org. The winter holiday season can bring times of joy and times of sorrow as we are flooded with memories or face a first holiday without a loved one. This group is designed to provide support and education about coping during such an emotional time. To accommodate as many people as possible, the program will be repeated twice: Thursday, November 20, from 12:30 to 2 pm and again on Thursday, December 11, from 6:30 to 8 pm. Please call to register for one of the sessions
9 Urban Zen Urban Zen is a pioneering new therapy that combines yoga, reiki massage, breathing techniques and aroma therapy to reduce stress and anxiety, increase restfulness, restore focus and create a sense of calm. A certified Urban Zen practitioner will lead a session on managing anxiety on Friday, February 14, from 2 to 3:30 pm and a second session on care for the caregiver on Friday, May 9, from 2 to 3:30 pm. Participation is limited to 10 individuals. To register, please call Memorial Services Zusman Hospice conducts meaningful memorial services twice a year. Created and presented by hospice staff, this is an opportunity to remember and honor the patients and families Zusman Hospice has been honored to accompany on their end-of-life journey. This year, families, caregivers, loved ones and friends are invited to come and celebrate those who have passed away on Thursday, May 15, and Thursday, November 13, from 7 to 8 pm in the Wexner Heritage Village Synagogue.
