2 About the Path Programme The Path Programme is investing in initiatives which create safe pathways for those wishing to exit gangs, stop criminal and anti-social behaviour, prevent younger generations from getting involved in gangs, build skills and raise aspirations for better choices. It aims to develop and connect the skills, expertise and hard work of voluntary groups and statutory agencies that want to help young people turn their lives around. Safer London s role is to provide local coordination in Brent, Camden and Lambeth. This will enable groups to have a more effective impact than if they were working alone. This gives the fund a strategic and longer-term element, setting it apart from a more straightforward grants programme. About Safer London We are an innovative, fast growing, award-winning charity with a vision of young people in London feeling safe and achieving their potential. Our mission is to improve the safety and wellbeing of young people in London affected by violence and crime. We provide specialist support, and training and consultancy, that addresses young people s experiences of violence and vulnerability.

4 Lambeth High Trees Community Development Trust The High-trees path programme has three focused elements: 1.Coaching Target age range of YP: 14-24yrs (although very flexible upon need) Young people are filtered in to different parts of the programme based on initial assessment by coaches/youth workers. Young people self-refer or can be referred although our geographical spread means we have access to many young people who live on the highly populated estates of St Martin s and Tulse Hill. 2.Sports sessions/youth club These session offer young people a safe and secure continual weekly sessions partnering with other local youth stakeholders in delivery. 3.Tulse Hill stakeholder forum Tulse Hill stakeholder forum is a quarterly meeting which invites local providers (statutory and voluntary) to network, learn and discuss local developments. 5 Lambeth Options4Change Options 4 Change is a charity working with children and young people age 5 to 19 years and their families. Our Pathway Project offers young people pathways out of group offending and routes into meaningful engagement. We aim to inspire aspirations and enable personal development in all aspects of peer engagement in the academic and social development of project participants. Our staff are experts in many areas of changing the lives of young people affected by gang cultures and offending lifestyles. 6 Lambeth Code 7 Code 7 was established when Peter St Aubyn (known as Asher De Senator), the founder, discovered that a lot of young people wanted to use his music facilities, which were based in his flat. Seeing the potential for engaging young people, many of whom were involved in criminal and anti-social behaviour, he realised he needed to formalise his youth engagement and created Code 7. Code 7 s work has gone on to include mediation projects, mentoring and training. Their ethos is built around using music as a hook to engage young people, then using subtle methods to learn about their needs and finally support them via training, mentoring or referrals. The group works with over 250 young people a year, primarily through provision of their music studio. Young people interested in making music or films come to the group where they can book in time to create their own singles and / or films. There are group activities where multiple young people are brought together to create a song or film (they recently did their own soap opera based on their own lives). Once trust has been established, the staff and volunteers begin to work with each individual identifying the barriers they face to living positively and achieving their dreams. Based on this each young person will have their own plan which may include gaining qualifications at the studio, getting back into school, getting a job whatever that individual needs. Alongside this, the group often act as mediators in gang conflicts and getting young people out of gangs (to help ensure there are no reprisals for leaving). 7 Lambeth Springfield Community Flat A small charity providing advice and support for vulnerable people living in Lambeth and surrounding areas. Services include help with debt, Benefits, finding work, housing problems and advice for asylum seekers and other migrants. Offers assistance in accessing legal advice and medical help. Provides a creche with early years sessional care, breakfast club and after school club for primary age children. ESOL and literacy classes. Conduct outreach work in order to draw more of the gang-involved young people (particularly girls) living on the Springfield and Larkhall estates into mentoring and personal development opportunities at the Springfield Community Flat youth service. 8 Camden Gospel Oak Action Link (GOAL) GOAL delivers services for young people in a severely deprived area of North West London. We offer special programmes for the most disadvantaged youths, particularly those at risk, who are not in education, employment or training (NEET), youth offenders and young people with mental health problems. Our services aim to reduce anti-social behaviour in the area, increase access to employment and education, facilitate the development of strong friendship networks, reduce health inequalities, build self-esteem/ social skills, teach leadership and initiative and raise aspirations. The purpose of the Path Programme is to provide a dedicated session for 25 gang-involved young people per year to access information, advice and guidance from Youth Workers who will support them to access the services they need. 9 Camden Only Connect Only Connect is London s creative criminal justice charity. Our vision is a more connected society where we all choose a crime free life. We deliver programmes across the justice system to build relationships, grow skills and cut crime. Only Connect s link worker will connect with affected gang members who come into one of the secure estates we are working in to give them support and re-refer them to the Integrate project. Only Connect is a partner of the Camden and Islington Integrate project, based on the model developed by MAC-UK. The project provides mental health support to gang affected young people aged 25+ in the King s Cross and Islington areas. N.B. The multi-agency partnership will also comprise Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, Camden Council, Islington Council, Catch22 and MAC-UK. 10 Camden Pan Intercultural Arts Pan Intercultural Arts (Pan) uses the arts to empower young people and unlock their potential. Pan runs three main programmes: Arts Against Violence, Refugee Youth Arts and International Theatre for Development. Weapon of Choice is Pan s Arts Against Violence theatre group, offering creative and thought-provoking programmes, usually delivered during 10 week residencies in schools, pupil referral units or through the youth offending service. WOC facilitators and artists are trained and experienced, and include past participants. Being peer-led makes the project accessible and interesting to young people who are struggling in education or in other areas of their lives. Referral takes place within the host organisation (school, pupil referral unit or youth offending service). Participants may be struggling in mainstream education, may be known to the youth justice system and often need time and space to reflect, create and discover an interest in a positive activity. 11 Brent PLIAS Resettlement PLIAS Resettlement specialises in supporting the resettlement of offenders. We work in two London prisons and provide post release support for those returning to Brent, Harrow and other West London Boroughs. We aim to reduce the risks of reoffending by supporting people to improve their lives and move into Education, Training & Employment. To achieve this we provide WrapAround Casework support, Advice & Guidance, Employability Support including CVs, interview techniques and how best to best to disclose a criminal record, employer brokerage, mentoring, mental health support including CBT and psychotherapy and youth projects. Our Pathway Project comprises 12-months bespoke personal development, employability, vocational & soft skills training for young people aged in Brent who are: Involved in a gang At risk of joining a gang At risk of offending/re-offending Want to leave a gang To refer a young person to our Path Project, please the project lead Minal Patel at minal.patel@plias.co.uk or

12 Brent Beyond Youth CIC has been delivering the eight session Chance 2 Change programme to offenders, and those at risk of offending, in both prison and community settings for over 10 years. C2C uses the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in a group setting with the aim of helping individuals to understand the ultimately change their own behaviour and motivations. Beyond Youth also delivers to bespoke therapeutic projects to specific cohorts such as young people leaving care, the long term unemployed, victims of domestic abuse and young women at risk of sexual exploitation. For PATH we are delivering a specific girls & gangs programme which will provide therapeutic intervention to tackle underlying emotional issues that are driving and influencing behaviours and decision making. Each programme runs with a minimum of 6 and maximum of 10 participants. Our minimum age for referral is currently 14 years. Any organisation who has a suitable group of young people can refer directly to us where funding is in place. 13 Brent, Lambeth YourStory works with vulnerable young people and their families to raise their emotional, mental and physical wellbeing. Covering Inner London Boroughs and the South East region our Mentors, Teachers and Family Workers deliver a range of projects including: The Hampton Project An alternative provision that works specifically with young offenders and those at risk of offending aged Students are offered a combination of GCSE s, Functional Skills and BTECs in a range of subjects. Gifted and Talented programme A tailored 6 month 1 year mentoring programme that works specifically with Gifted and Talented young people who may be on the fringes of gang involvement and social exclusion. The programme is aimed at year olds who have negative crime/antisocial related influences in their lives. 14 Brent, Camden MAC-UK PAE (Positive Adolescent Engagement) project is MAC-UK s first peer-led, mental health informed integrate intervention established to engage disadvantaged young people aged 11 to 15 living in parts of Camden, North London. It was set up by Mark, Kiaron and Thomas, all of whom are ex-service users. Their experiences have positioned them as positive role models to the young T: E: sinem.cakir@mac-uk.org people they now engage. PAE aims to identify young people who are at risk of offending and guide them through what can be a challenging and confusing transition from adolescence to young adulthood. The PAE practitioners act as mentors to the young people using an effective approach which comes from their own lived experiences alongside an informed understanding of mental health. PAE also benefits from regular consultation with MAC-UK clinical psychologists. Through working in partnership with local agencies, the service aims to support young people in resisting gang culture and promoting positive mental health and wellbeing. The project accepts peer referrals as well as professional referrals from other local agencies. 14

15 Just For Kids Law Brent, Lambeth, Camden Just for Kids Law delivers client-led holistic representation and support to vulnerable children and young people from crisis to stability and onwards into independence. We do this through our innovative youth advocacy, specialist legal representation, and youth opportunities programme. Our Path Youth Advocate works with young people who are at risk of, or are involved in, gang affiliation in Brent and Camden, to address all of the interrelated problems they face. The youth advocate then works with the young person on their instruction and at their pace, designing an individual package of support that covers all areas of need. Our Advocate works in the community, attending meetings with young people. They listen to the young peoples wishes, make sure their voices are heard and that they are informed of their rights in the areas that are important for them.
