Next Drop In: Thurs 4th Aug & Thurs 1st Sept Male Carer Group - Jolly Boys An opportunity to meet other male carers locally and enjoy an occasional outing. Next Group: Wed 31st & Wed 28th Sept Young Adult Carer Group (Aged 18-25) An opportunity to meet other Young Adult Carers and take part in a range of activities. Next Group: Wed 24th Aug Carers Forum Meet every 2 months. Come and have a say on issues that matter to you. Next Meeting: 28th Sept, at Ty AVOW Staff Changes We are very sad to announce that Ramona is no longer part of Wrexham Carers Service. She will be sorely missed, we wish her all the very best for the future. We would like to welcome Kati Williams, as the new YAC support worker and Sophie Boyce for the Information and Support Worker. AWARENESS What Do We Offer? Advice, Information & Emotional Support We can offer you advice, info & emotional support. If you would like to discuss your caring role please just pick up the phone. Counselling Free 1hr sessions Thurs or Fri between 9.00am-12.00pm. Please note appointments must be booked. Telephone Befriending a regular telephone call from someone who understands your situation. Discounted Leisure Card Entitles you to a discount at any of the Wrexham Council Leisure Centres. TENPIN Bowling card - entitles you to discounted rates at Wrexham TENPIN Bowling. Training Sessions - sessions held regularly throughout the year. Fundraising & Donation Thanks Sainsburys Our 12 month partnership with Sainsburys has now come to an end. Many thanks to all staff who have supported us. Friends of Wrexham Carers Service Do you know someone who is looking after a relative or a friend, because of a disability, health problem, sensory impairment and/or the effects of age and could not manage without their help? If yes, please make them aware of our service, we would be more than happy to have a chat with them. Friends of Wrexham Carers have been very busy raising funds over the last couple of months. They have raised We would like to thank everyone who assisted with the events and for all of the fantastic prize donations we received. Donation We would also like to say a big thank you to Singing Hands for their kind donation of 100. The money raised will be used to subsidise future events, activities and therapies. 3 CARER NEWS & EVENTS Monthly Drop-in Evening Carers Drop-in Open University Talk on line Carers self- development course We will be welcoming a speaker from Open University to talk about an on-line Carers Self - Development Course, if you would like to find out about the course and would benefit from a chat and a cuppa with other Carers or a staff member, come along. When: Thursday 4th August Where: AVOW, 21 Egerton Street. Wrexham Time: 10am - 12noon All Welcome! Places need to booked for the information talk. We know that attending daytime activities can be difficult for many of you, so we are holding an evening drop in. We hope this will enable us to reach out to more of you. A chance to enjoy a hot drink & a chat with other carers and member of staff. New members with their varied views and experiences are vital to ensuring the continual improvement of quality health & wellbeing services in Wrexham. All Carers welcome to join us. The group meets every 2 months. The next meeting will take place at AVOW: Wed 28th Sept, 10:30 Meetings are held in a friendly atmosphere to which you would be very welcome, please join us to have your voice heard!! Young Adult Carers The Young Adult Carer group is especially for Carers aged between who cares for someone, whether this be a parent, grandparent, partner, child or sibling. It is a chance to enjoy time away from their caring role, take part in new experiences & meet other Young Adult Carers. The group meets monthly, normally on the last Wednesday of the month but, this can change depending on the activity. Next meetings: Wed 24th Aug, 11am - Surfing Taster at Surf Snowdonia We are open to suggestions for different activities and outings!!! It has many of the usual features remaining and a vast array of products to enjoy. Male Carers - Jolly Boys This group is for Male Carers only. It is an opportunity to meet other male Carers and enjoy outings. The group meets monthly normally meeting on the last Wed of the month but this can change depending on the activity. Next meetings: Wed 31st Aug, Lunch at the pub Wed 28th Sept, Visit to Chirk Castle, Meet at AVOW, 11am We are open to suggestions for different activities and outings!!! For more information or to book your place please contact Roger on SAVE THE DATE Britain s Best Breakfast Once again this year we will be taking part in Carers Trust s Britain's Best Breakfast to raise money to support Carers. This is a national event and we are thrilled to be hosting our own Big Breakfast. Please come along, bring a friend and enjoy a tasty breakfast, whether you are a fan of the full English or something lighter. Diary Marker The event will take place on Wednesday morning, 12th October 2016 Further details to follow in our next newsletter. All Welcome!! Once again this year we have organised our annual Carers Christmas trip. For those that have been before we are sure you will agree that it is a lovely opportunity to relax, unwind and enjoy the company of other carers and get your Christmas gifts in ready, As in previous years there will be a limited number of spaces available so it will be a first come basis so please contact us asap on to book your place. 5 CARER NEWS & EVENTS Friends of Wrexham Carers All Welcome! Friends of Wrexham Carers are a voluntary run committee made up of Carers, Former Carers & anyone else who supports the cause. They are appealing for new members to sit on the committee or volunteer for one off events. Next Meeting: Thurs 18th August & Thurs 15th September, 10am - 12noon, at AVOW. FOWC have fundraisers coming up between now and October including tombolas, bingo, coffee morning and Autumn fair. 6 News & Information Autism Friendly Cinema Screenings ODEON is aware that going to a standard performance of a film can be a challenge for guests on the autism spectrum or with sensory or learning disabilities. The Odeon in Wrexham holds monthly, Autism Friendly screenings, suitable for all ages and all special needs - not just Autism. These are normally held on the second Sunday of the month. Contact us for more information. Discount Card for Theatres & Art Centres in Wales Hynt card which allows a carer to go to the theatre free of charge if they are supporting someone who has a disability. It can be used in Neuadd Dwyfor in Pwllheli, Galeri in Caernarfon, Venue Cymru in Llandudno, Theatre Colwyn in Colwyn Bay and Clwyd Theatre in Mold. For further information about the scheme please visit the website Out & About - Carer Discounts There are various discounts available for you, as a carer, when accessing leisure and tourist attractions. Wrexham Leisure - FREE accompanying Carer when disabled person carries the DASH Card Centres or a discounted rate when Carer attends without the person they care for All Cinemas Tenpin Bowling - A CEA Card entitles a disabled person to a FREE accompanying Carer ticket - A concessionary rate for Carers at Tenpin Bowling Wrexham * Most attractions like Chester Zoo, Blue Planet, Knowsley Safari park, National Trust, Theme Parks, Theatres etc will either offer a free Carer admission or a reduced rate. * Always check by phoning ahead or asking at the paydesk. It will not always be visible on their price list or website. * Remember to either carry proof of DLA/PIP/Attendance Allowance or Carers Allowance -just in case! For further info on any of the cards mentioned above please contact us. Reduced Cost Holidays For Carers We know how important it is for carers to take a short break from time to time. The Carers Support Centre is a charity providing low-cost holidays for carers. Holidays are designed for carers and their families to have an affordable break. They are for carers, either alone or with the person they care for. They offer disabled accessible accommodation in caravans in Torbay and the Cotswolds.
