1 Instruction for use of Foley Catheter General Description: Foley Catheter for single use consists of a thin, sterile tube made of Natural latex 100% coated with medical solid Silicone, ended with soft rounded closed tip with Safe and symmetrical balloon inflation. Intended Use: Foley Catheter for single use is a thin, sterile tube inserted into bladder to drain urine. Because it can be left in place in the bladder for a period of time, it is also called an indwelling catheter. It is held in place with a balloon at the end, which is filled with sterile water to hold it in place. The urine drains into a bag and can then be taken from an outlet device to be drained). Insertion of Foley catheter: The Foley catheter may introduce an infection into the bladder. The risk of infection in the urine increases with the number of days the catheter is in place. If the balloon is opened before the Foley catheter is completely inserted into the bladder, bleeding, damage and even rupture of the urethra can occur. Inflate the balloon with sterile water to the volume stated on the inflation lumen of the catheter by using a water-filled Luer tip syringe. Do not use needle. Do not exceed recommended capacities. This is a single use device. Do not resterilize any portion of this device. Reuse and/or repackaging may create a risk of patient or user infection, compromise the structural integrity and/or essential material and design characteristics of the device, which may lead to device failure, and/or lead to injury, illness or death of the patient. - Do not use by unskilled and untrained personnel

2 NOTE: This device is single use for short term (less than 30 days) and not to be replaced with similar device as continuous use Precautions: To deflate catheter balloon: Gently insert a Luer slip tip syringe in the catheter valve. Never use more force than is required to make the syringe stick in the valve. Allow the pressure within the balloon to force the plunger back and fill the syringe with water. If you notice slow or no deflation, re-seat the syringe gently. Use only gentle aspiration to encourage deflation if needed. Vigorous aspiration may collapse the inflation lumen, preventing balloon deflation. If necessary, contact adequately trained professional for assistance, as directed by hospital protocol. Should balloon rupture occur, care should be taken to assure that all balloon fragments have been removed from the patient.
