2 The vegan protein market has grown in recent years with the emergence of aspirational foodie trends including clean eating, raw and paleo combined with awareness of superfoods. At Cambridge Commodities we are constantly sourcing new ingredients from across the globe and have approved a wide range of vegan proteins beyond the traditional soy and pea. Vegan proteins are clean label, often allergen free and easily digestible due to their fibre content. In addition to offering a perceived healthier and environmentally friendly choice when compared to animal proteins, plant protein sources can provide a full profile of amino acids and omega 3 fatty acids for vegetarians and vegans. With 24% growth in global high-protein launches with plant-based proteins* (2014 vs 2013), the trend for new and innovative vegan protein sources is set to continue as consumers look to more natural, plant based products to meet their healthy lifestyle goals. * Innova Market Research The range consists of black bean, almond, cranberry, buckwheat, hemp, pumpkin seed and quinoa protein powders. All are extracted from superfoods and are both ethically sourced and environmentally friendly, connecting with key drivers of health-conscious consumers. All products in the range but hemp and cranberry are produced via water extraction, a solvent-free method which is a cleaner and more ecological processing method than alcohol based extraction. Hemp is comprised of cold-pressed, ground hemp seeds. Cranberry is produced by an enzyme-free, solvent-free cold extrusion and filtration process. vegan proteins have a range of additional nutritional benefits to their protein content. Cranberry, buckwheat, hemp, pumpkin seed and quinoa proteins are free from the 14 major allergens. Many products in the range contain natural plant fibre which is essential for digestive health. Hemp is considered a complete protein with a full profile of amino acids.

3 Black Bean Protein 70% Protein content Improved digestibility and absorption Fermentation process increases amino acid content Also referred to as Douchi in Asia, Black Bean Protein is extracted from a fermented form of the Glycinemax L merr (soy bean) and should not be confused with typical black beans, also known as Mexican beans or turtle beans. The fermentation process promotes an increase in the amino acid content of the black bean, which improves the quality of the protein and also reduces levels of anti-nutrient factors, improving the digestibility and absorption of the product. Black Bean Protein is processed using water extraction and contains a 70% protein content.

4 Buckwheat Protein 70% Protein content Natural source of rutin Free from allergens Buckwheat Protein is extracted via water extraction from the Fagopyrum esculentum and has a 70% protein content. Buckwheat is one of the richest dietary sources of the flavonoid rutin, a powerful antioxidant, which cannot be synthesised by the human body. Rutin s antioxidant efficacy can be attributed to its metal chelating abilities. Rutin also has an anti-inflammatory and anti-coagulatory role to play within the human body. Buckwheat is a seed, rather than a grain and is naturally free from allergens. Buckwheat protein has been studied for its ability to reduce blood glucose levels in diabetes.

5 Almond Protein 70% Protein content Low sugar Source of fibre Obtained from the seeds of the Prunus armeniaca L and with a 70% protein content, Almond Protein is manufactured using water extraction. Per 100g, almonds contain almost double the protein content, weight for weight, of eggs. Almond Protein contains only 0.6g fat and 2.5g sugar per 100g respectively. Additionally, it contains 5.7g of plant fibre which is essential for individuals following a high protein diet in order to aid digestive regularity.

6 Hemp Protein Contains all essential amino acids Good source of omega 3 fatty acids Organic forms available including 50% and 75% strengths Hemp Protein is produced from the whole seeds of the hemp plant. Hemp is easily digestible and is naturally allergen free. The particular species used, Cannabis sativa Subsp sativa, contains an insignificant quantity of THC (<2ppm) and therefore is unable to cause any form of hallucinogenic effect. Hemp is a complete protein, containing all of the essential amino acids, making it a fantastic vegan protein source which can aid in maintaining the body s nitrogen balance. Both conventional and organic forms of hemp protein are available in a variety of strengths including 50% and 75%. In addition to being a complete protein, hemp is also a good source of fibre and omega 3 fatty acids.

7 Cranberry Protein Powerful antioxidant properties High in fibre Free from allergens Cranberries are well known for their powerful antioxidant properties and are a great source of polyphenols and flavonoids. Cranberry protein is high in fibre ( 50%) and contains both mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids as well as potassium, calcium, iron, vitamin A and vitamin C. Cranberry Protein has a pink colour, is allergen free and is produced using a cold extrusion and filtration process, which does not involve the use of enzymes or extraction solvents. Cranberry protein is low in sugar, salt and saturated fat. Although the protein content is lower than many other protein sources at 20%, Cranberry Protein boasts many additional nutritional benefits, making it a great addition to a blend.

8 Pumpkin Seed Protein 80% Protein content Free from allergens Low in fat, cabohydrate and sodium Extracted from the seeds of the Curcubita moschata Duch via water extraction, Pumpkin Seed Protein has an 80% protein content. It contains no compound or excipient ingredients and is free from allergens. Pumpkin seed protein is extremely low in fat, carbohydrate and sodium. Pumpkin seeds were a celebrated food among many Native American tribes, who treasured them for their dietary and medicinal purposes.

9 Quinoa Protein 70% Protein content Free from allergens Good amino acid profile Extracted from the Chenopodium quinoa willd using water extraction, Quinoa Protein has a 70% protein content and a good profile of amino acids. Originating in the Andean highlands of South America, quinoa was referred to as the Mother Grain by the Inca people and is thought to have been consumed as far back as 3000 B.C. Quinoa is a seed, not a grain, and is therefore free from allergens.
