FEED TAGS FAST START CA I T LY N M W ELT Y IT S THE LAW Tag required by all Feeds Custom Tags can be VERY generic: Who its made for Feeding directions Medication & level Who made it (with address) Feeds sold to more than one customer: Follows FDA guidelines for tags Follow the state of manufacturing guidelines US Gov. prints a book that list rules. 1/4
2/4
7-9 Sections Brand / Product Name 3/4
BRAND / PRODUCT NAME The brand or product name must be appropriate for the intended use of the feed and must not be misleading. Species Name Medicated If the name indicates the feed is made for a specific use, the character of the feed must conform therewith. A commercial feed for a particular animal class, must be suitable for that purpose. Commercial, registered brand or trade names are not permitted in guarantees or ingredient listings and only in the product name of feeds produced by or for the firm holding the rights to such a name. In State of manufacturing the name must be one-of-a-kind Purpose Statement 4/4
PURPOSE STATEMENT Description Specific species and animal classes For Further Manufacture of Feed Nutrients guaranteed and sufficient for further formulation Medication Statement 5/4
MEDICATED Medicated Required on tag, below Product Name Purpose & Claim Statement (FDA - Compendium) Active Ingredient Statement in g/ton (Trade to Chemical Name) Aureo = Chlortetracycline Banmith = Pyrantel Tartrate BMD = Bacitracin Methylene Disalicylate Bovatec = Lasalocid Clarifly = Diflubenzuron Corid = Amprolium IGR = S-Methoprene Neo Terra = Neomycin Sulfate & Oxytetracycline Rabon = Tetrachlorvinphos Rumensin = Monensin Safeguard = Fenbendazole Meccadox = Carbadox Tylan = Tylosin Phosphate Feeding rate in name Drug level on a lb/hd/day basis Guaranteed Analysis 6/4
GUARANTEED ANALYSIS Each Nutrient has its own units. GUARANTEED ANALYSIS Different species have different rules on what they are required to list. 7/4
GUARANTEED ANALYSIS GUARANTEED ANALYSIS 8/4
GUARANTEED ANALYSIS GUARANTEED ANALYSIS NUTRIENT ORDER CP Equivalent CP from NPN AA Crude Fat Crude Fiber ADF NDF Ca P Salt Na GROUPING BY UNITS % ppm IU/lb CFU/g Enzyme activity 9/4
CRUDE PROTEIN & NPN If the feed has a NPN source in it: Urea, Ammonia Chloride, Mono Phos Must be listed as how much of the NPN within Crude Protein We can reverse calculate the amount in the feed if we know what the source is: For Example: 35% CP with 11% NPN & Urea (11% NPN) / (281% Urea CP) X 2000 lbs/ton = 78.3 lbs of Urea/ton Ingredients 10/4
INGREDIENT SECTION Most feed tags are not detailed Hide their true ingredients Allows Feedmills to least cost mixes without constant tag changes Helps protect patents Helps to hide the nutrition in the mix. Ingredients are usually listed highest to lowest inclusion rate Majority of the feed is generally the first ingredient Collective Terms o Corn in Complete feeds o SBM in Supplements o Ca Carb/Limestone in Mineral Mixes COLLECTIVE TERMS 1. Processed Grain Products Corn, Oats, Wheat, Rye 2. Processed Grain By-Products Distillers Dried Grains, Rice Bran, Wheat Middlings 3. Forage Products Alfalfa Meal, Coastal Bermudagrass Hay 4.
