2 Background The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatian (the MP) requested a scientific opinion from the Croatian Food Agency (CFA) on the possibility of labeling natural mineral water and natural spring water as "suitable for food preparation for infants" That scientific opinion was adopted in April Conclusions indicated that the nutritional composition of infant formulas, that are currently present on the Croatian market, has not taken into account the contribution of the water and multiply exceeds the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of the DA-CH and USDA formulas for certain nutrients Due to conclusions, and by taking into account that most of the Croatian mothers prepare infant formulas with the boiled drinking water, working group proposed a project "The impact of the quality of water for human consumption on the nutritional value of infant milk formulas" The aim of this project was to assess the impact of water quality of water supply systems in the Republic of Croatia on the final share of certain nutrients in infant milk preparation.

3 Legislation Water for human consumption has certain physical and chemical characteristics that must comply with the provisions of the Food Act (Official Gazette 81/13, 14/14), Law on water for human consumption (Official Gazette 56/2013) and the Ordinance on the parameters of assessment and methods for water analysis for human consumption (Official Gazette 125/2013). This Ordinance defines the parameters of safety of water for human consumption (microbiological and chemical), indicator parameters and their maximum allowed concentrations Its provisions apply to water supplied by legal persons, and the water from the water supply system Infant milk formulas present in the market have similar composition as regards the share of micro- and macronutrients (in accordance with the guidelines and recommendations of professional associations, preliminary studies)

4 Methodology sampling and analysis of drinking water from the water supply system of the county centers in Croatia preparing the water according to the instructions of the manufacturer of infant milk formulas analysis of the water conduced in order to determine the effect of boiling onto chemical composition of drinking water calculating and comparing the results with the twelve infant formulae present on Croatian market (six for age 0-4 moths and six for age 4-12 months) with recommended values for 15 micronutrients

7 Discussion and conclusions the results of previous testing of drinking water carried out in the Republic of Croatia concerning the incidence and shares of individual anions and cations in water for human consumption distributed by the water supply systems indicate significant differences in their physical and chemical properties due to the origin and ways of water processing (Habuda-Stanic et al., 2015) calculating and comparing the values obtained with our research project was determined that the reference values established for the iron, zinc, manganese, phosphate, potassium, magnesium and sodium are already above the RDA in infant milk formulas for age 0 4 month and for iron, zinc, manganese, phosphate, sodium, calcium, magnesium and potassium for age 4 12 months with the addition of boiled drinking water their share increase further, therefore final value of micronutrients significantly exceeding the recommended daily amount of intake (RDA) contribution of individual nutrients in the water, can significantly influence to their final share in infant milk preparations
