2 Foreword Dear colleagues and friends, On behalf of IBRA, we will like to welcome you to the seminar and workshop in the Asia Pacific region on Trauma and Reconstruction of the Upper Limb with this year s edition being held at the new SingHealth Academy, Singapore. The programme promises to be exciting, with the focus on the surgical management of common fractures of the distal aspect of the upper limb, namely the elbow, wrist and hand; providing participants with the latest updates by the esteemed international faculty and hands-on experience on the state of the art implants currently being used to stabilize the fractures. Being a full day seminar, we encourage strong and robust interactions between the participants and the faculty, in sharing of experiences and ideas, discussion and debates on the challenges, problems and solutions in managing patients with traumatic upper limb fractures. 10 General Information Program Description An interactive, hands-on Seminar and Workshop, addressing trauma and reconstruction of the hand, wrist and part of the elbow with representative cases and discussions. International faculty will apply evidence and present latest innovations in lecture format and surgical demonstration to the participating hand and orthopaedic surgeons. Course Format The program focusses on hands-on cadaveric exercises. It is divided into 4 sessions concentrating on hand (phalanges, metacarpals), carpus, distal radius and elbow (radial head, olecranon). Each session starts with a presentation introducing the indications and current treatment options. After that, a number of exercises will be carried out allowing a close interaction and discussion with the faculty. Research Support IBRA offers financial support for research projects dealing with bone biology and the improvement or development of internal fixation devices for maxillofacial and limbs surgery. With the emphasis on innovation and suitability for practical application, 95% of the research budget goes towards applied research and clinical studies and 5% towards basic research. Education IBRA s education area offers clinicians special courses on the application of specific methods of treatment.
