3 Recertification program For over 150 years, Smith & Nephew has developed advanced medical devices for healthcare professionals around the world. Our pioneering technologies continue to enable medical practitioners to provide effective treatments quickly and economically. With the help of innovative equipment from Smith & Nephew, patients enjoy more active lifestyles with improved mobility and rapid recovery from surgery. While Smith & Nephew external fixation devices are labeled as single use only, as part of the continued advancement efforts a recertification program for certain JET-X external fixation devices is now available. By utilizing this program, you can refurbish your product through the original manufacturer and the product can be recertified for additional use.
4 Recertification program benefits The Smith & Nephew Recertification Program: Allows you to maintain the original manufacturer warranty. Maximizes sustainability in medical device usage. Minimizes the environmental impact of medical device disposal. Helps to offset the rising costs of healthcare. Full warranty and liability are assumed for devices that are refurbished by Smith & Nephew. As the original manufacturer of these products, the exact specifications are known and met. Products reprocessed by other companies cannot be inspected to the original manufacturer s guidelines established for patient safety, potentially putting the patient and hospital at risk. Smith & Nephew sales professionals will continue to act as service providers and product specialists on Smith & Nephew recertified products, because they were inspected by the original manufacturer.
5 Recertification program overview The refurbishment of Single Use Devices is regulated. Smith & Nephew is able to refurbish JET-X clamps. The Smith & Nephew Recertification program allows for three uses of the device. After a new device is used, it can be recertified for an additional use. This process is repeated for a third use. Collection containers are available to hold products until there is a sufficient amount to ship to Smith & Nephew for recertification. When the hospital is ready to refurbish the device, it is sent to the recertification area for refurbishment. Once the clamps are recertified for an additional use, the hospital is notified that the purchase order for the components can be processed. Your sales representative can provide you with all the guidance you need to begin using this simple and straightforward recertification program. You can also visit for more information.
6 Product guidelines Smith & Nephew will recertify JET-X External Fixation System clamps for additional use. Smith & Nephew will not refurbish drills, half-pins or carbon fiber bars, due to the risk for patient harm with re-use. Instruments will not be reprocessed. However, Instrument repairs may always be sent to the Smith & Nephew repairs department as needed. Other external fixation systems such as TAYLOR SPATIAL FRAME and ILIZAROV TM are not currently available for recertification. Smith & Nephew cannot provide warranties for products reprocessed by other companies. Products reprocessed by third party reprocessors are no longer considered Smith & Nephew product.
7 Hospital responsibilities Decontamination of all devices before sending to Smith & Nephew for recertification. Ensuring each product is used once and only once before returning the used product to Smith & Nephew for recertification. More than one use of a product without recertification relieves Smith & Nephew of any responsibility or liability for related damages. Accurately reporting the existence and amount of any rebate or discount granted by Smith & Nephew to any third party payer requiring cost reports.
