HISTORY OF VULKAN IT WAS 1977 IN GOTHENBERG SWEDEN, WHEN PER TRANDBERG, AN EXPERT IN THE DIVING INDUSTRY STARTED EXPERIMENTING WITH SOME OLD WETSUIT MATERIAL. The material was known as neoprene, and Per used it to make custom knee and elbow protectors for volleyball players who found that the heat and protection helped their performance. He experimented with different types of neoprene materials, density, lining and thickness until he had achieved the ideal fit and level of comfort s 1990 s 1970 s THE VULKAN BRAND IS BORN The product was named Vulkan, which when translated into English means Volcano. The product was compared to a volcano as it creates an eruption of heat! TRIALS & RESEARCH Throughout the 1980 s Per worked tirelessly with medical professionals to carry out clinical research to prove the effectiveness of his products. The first study was presented at the Swedish Annual Medical Conference in December 1981 showing the effects of the heat retaining supports of skin temperature. Further studies were conducted throughout the decade and the products were shown in the 5th Nordic Conference of General Medicine as part of the treatment of acute back pain. The supports were shown to reduce the amount of pain and increase the recovery rate.
