COURSE DESCRIPTION Physical Agents III is a subject which encompasses the use of cold, heat and water as a general treatment in Physiotherapy, being its inclusion essential inside the Degree of Physiotherapy. There are several techniques due to the different applications to be used in order to develop physiological and biological reactions in patients. The subject allows the student to obtain a solid knowledge to apply and establish treatment protocols of Cryotherapy, Termotherapy and Hydrotherapy. This subject reinforces contents of related subjects of the first course such as Biophysics and Practical Basis of Kinesitherapy. 1.- COMPETENCIES Code BS.T.2 BS.T.3 BS.T.4 Basic and General Competencies 4. COMPETENCIES Understanding the sciences, models, techniques and instruments upon which physiotherapy is based, organized and developed. Understanding the physiotherapeutic methods, procedures and actions directed at both therapeutics in itself to be applied clinically for functional rehabilitation and re-education and the performance of activities directed at the promotion and maintenance of health. Acquisition of adequate clinical experience that provides intellectual abilities and technical and manual skills, that facilitates the incorporation of ethical and professional values, and that develops the capacity to integrate the knowledge acquired so that, by the end of the degree studies, students will know how to apply them to both specific clinical cases in hospital and out-of-hospital environments and to actions in primary and community care. GS.FE.3 Understanding and applying theoretical fundamentals in the development of physiotherapeutic methods and procedures. GS.FE.5 GS.FE.6 Understanding and applying manual and instrumental assessment methods and procedures in physiotherapy and physical rehabilitation as well as the scientific assessment of their use and effectiveness. Understanding, designing and applying the different care modalities and procedures in physiotherapy: massage therapy, electrotherapy, magnet therapy, hydrotherapy, balneotherapy, climatotherapy, thalassotherapy, thermotherapy, cryotherapy, vibrotherapy, phototherapy, pressotherapy, therapies deriving from other physical agents, as well as fundamental aspects of ergotherapy, and other therapies within the area of competency of physiotherapy. 3

To develop the aptitude for keeping updated the different technological resources of the area of Physiotherapy, guaranteeing the quality and safety as well as incorporating innovations in the field of activity To clarify, to solve doubts and to orientate the patient and relatives during the whole therapeutic process To know the principles and theories of physical agents and their applications in physiotherapy 5. 5 2.- DESCRIPTION OF LEARNING ACTIVITIES: Activity AF1 Lecture AF2 Seminar AF3 Workshop AF4 Practice Definition Learning activity oriented preferably to the competence of acquisition of knowledge (competence 1 MECES) and representative of more theoretical subjects. This activity gives priority to the transmission of knowledge by the professor, with the previous preparation or later study from the student. Learning activity which highlights the participation of the student in the reasoned interpretation of the contents and the sources of the area of study. It is oriented preferably to the competence of the application of knowledge (competence 2 MECES), and also to the ability of gathering, interpreting, and judging information and relevant data (competence 3 MECES). It is representative of mixed profile activities or subjects; theories and practices. Learning activity oriented preferably to the competence of the acquisition of abilities related to transmission of knowledge (competence 4 MECES) and representative of more methodological subjects. It prepares the student for written-oral communication and transmission of knowledge. Learning activity oriented preferably to the competence of application of knowledge (competence 2 MECES) and representative of subjects or practical activities (labs, radio studies, TV studies and/or any other proper space). Practical classes will take place in the laboratory for 6 days in sessions of 3 hours per day. AF7 Self Student Work Learning activity where the student develops his or her study in an autonomous way working with formative materials. 6. ASSESMENT OF LEARNING 1.- CLASS ATTENDANCE: In order to be eligible for examination by continuous assessment students must attend at least 75% of scheduled class time (attendance sheets will be used). As students may be absent 25% of the classes, no attenuating circumstances will be accepted for absences. Students who for work reasons or academic (overlapping schedules with other subjects of the university), cannot attend more than 75% of the theoretical classes will qualify for continuous assessment provided they have a minimum attendance of 50%. To qualify for this rate must duly justify its situation to the professor responsible for the subject or delegated by him notwithstanding other justifications that may be required students from other instances. 100% attendance at practical classes is required to qualify for continuous assessment. Any absence must be justified and as far as possible, recovered. To do this, students must apply for acceptance in another group talking to the responsible of the course and present an official document and fill in the document to recover practical classes signed by both teachers. In case the practice cannot be recovered in another group (impossibility in the calendar or excess of students in the recovery group) the student will not be eligible for continuous assessment. Students with overlappings between subjects must have a minimum attendance of 50% regarding the theoretical classes. It is mandatory to present the information document about overlappings between subjects to the Physiotherapy Coordinator being the final date one month after the beginning of the classes corresponding to the second semester being this document needed to fall within this exception. 5

Students must obtain a grade equal to 5 or above in order to be considered for the continuous assessment score. Theoretical Continuous Assessment Activities Theoretical Ordinary Exam The other 30% is assessed through different continuous assessment activities (reading articles and answering questions, explaining an item/topic, searching for information in order to prepare a topic for the exam, etc). Not presenting these activities preclude the continuous assessment, and the student are required to do the theoretical final ordinary exam (which counts for a 50% of the final total score). The final ordinary exam includes a multiple choice test with written exam questions essay type which counts for the rest 35 % of the final theoretical score. It will cover the lessons not included in the theoretical partial exam. Those students who do not pass the partial exam are required to do this final ordinary exam which counts for 50% for them. 6

7 SE4 Practical Continuous Assessment Activities SE3 Practical exam Theoretical Extraordinary Exam SE4 Practical Extraordinary Exam A 30% is assessed through different continuous assessment activities (reading articles and answering questions, explaining an item/topic, searching for information in order to prepare a topic for the exam, etc). Not presenting these activities preclude the continuous assessment, and the student are required to do the theoretical final ordinary exam (which counts for a 50% of the final total score). The course objectives will be assessed through one final oral exam which counts for 70% of the final practical score. Students must obtain a grade equal to 5 or above in order to be considered for the continuous assessment score. Students who do not pass the subject during the ordinary exam will be able to submit to a final theoretical extraordinary exam covering all the lessons included in the subject. This exam may include a multiple choice test with written exam questions essay type and questions related to solve a clinical case. Students must obtain a final grade equal to 5 or above in order to pass the theoretical (which counts for 50% of the final total score). Students who do not pass the subject during the ordinary exam will be able to submit to a final practical extraordinary exam covering all the lessons included in the subject. Students must obtain a final grade equal to 5 or above in order to pass the practical (which counts for 50% of the final total score). 7. ATTITUDE IN THE CLASSROOM Any irregular act of academic integrity (no reference to cited sources, plagiarism of work or inappropriate use of prohibited information during examinations) or signing the attendance sheet for fellow students not present in class will result in the student not being eligible for continuous assessment and possibly being penalized according to the University regulations. The use of mobile phone is not allowed during the theoretical and practical classes. It is likewise restricted use of the documentation provided by the teacher through the student portal (presentations, questions, exercises, seminars, notebooks practices, etc.) to the preparation of the subject. Teachers reserve the right to make use of the measures contained in the legislation on Intellectual Property, in cases where use and / or unauthorized disclosure of such material is detected reserved. 8
