Saunders Course Description Physiological effects, indications, contraindications and applications of therapeutic exercise in the rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses for the physically active person. 1
2 Course Objectives At the completion of these classes you will 1. Have an understanding and concept of the rehabilitation process. 2. Have an understanding of muscle strength and endurance. 3. Understand the principles designing a rehabilitation program. 4. Understand the principles of plyometrics, functional exercise, posture and body mechanics. 5. Apply rehabilitation techniques to different parts of the human body. 6. Discuss the principles, goals, and objectives of rehabilitation. 7. Define the SOAP note and explain its significance to rehabilitation. Be on time 2. Turn off all cell phones. (If you are expecting a very important call please inform the instructor) 3. Attendance is expected; inform the instructor in advance if you will miss class due to acceptable reasons. 5 percent will be deducted from your 2
3 overall grade for each un-excused absence. You will be given three excused absences only. Matriculation Clause This course must be completed in the original curriculum sequence that is set for all athletic training students. In order for you to move on to the next set of core athletic training courses you must pass this class with a C or better. If not, you will not matriculate to the next set of core athletic training courses. Student Responsibilities 1. Read the assigned material prior to coming to class. 2. Quizzes will be in class. 3. Exams will be taken on the scheduled day. 4. Students will follow UNCW s policy on plagiarism and academic dishonesty. Portfolio There will be a portfolio required for this course. It needs to follow these guidelines; 1. Course Syllabus placed in the opening of the portfolio 2. Tab dividers for each section or topic will separate all materials. All course notes from lecture/discussion must be typed. Any hand written notes will be returned unread. 3. Any handouts for a particular topic should also be in the same place as the lecture/discussion for that topic. 4. Abstracts you wrote will be in a section labeled "Abstracts" 5. Miscellaneous handouts will be in a section labeled "Miscellaneous" located in the back of the portfolio. This is worth. Portfolios will be check after each chapter. Each week the portfolio is not up to date it will result in a 5% deduction from the final portfolio grade. The portfolios will be due December 1st at the beginning of class. Portfolios will not be accepted late. This portfolio will be a valuable resource when studying for your BOC exam. 3
