I am also interested in social cognition, broadly defined, with specific areas of interest including: the role of emotion in judgment, predictions of the future, and perceptions of others. 6 Bench CV 6 Lab Instructor: Research Methods of Psychology, 2009 (Fall), 2010 (Spring), 2011 (Spring), Fall (2011), Spring (2013) Independently instructed an intensive writing based laboratory for undergraduate students. Students were taught research methods of psychology, basic statistical analyses and APA writing format for reporting results. Rating: 4.59/5, 4.43/5, 4.44/5, 4.61/5, 4.76/5 Grader: Social Psychology, 2009 (Spring), 2013 (Summer) Mentoring Served as primary adviser in the development of independent research projects with three undergraduate students. Studies to be presented at Texas A&M Undergraduate Research Week and the Washington State University Research Symposium. Projects were also submitted for internal grant funding, for a total of $5,750 (under review). Mentored 44 undergraduate students over multiple semesters working in the Emotion and Motivation Lab at (55% continued to graduate school, 45% from underrepresented backgrounds; 75% female), Fall 2008-Summer Students completed a variety of research projects, including senior theses, and projects presented at the Texas A&M Undergraduate Research Week. Provided individual mentorship for 11 undergraduate students from courses, assisting with their graduate school applications or professional aspirations (73% continued to graduate school; 48% from underrepresented backgrounds; 80% female). Additional Training Methodological Training Trained to use ISCAN eye tracking technology for social science research, Trained in meta-analysis techniques, Teaching Training Teaching of Psychology Seminar, 2013 (Spring) This optional course provided in depth training in lecture and discussion based teaching, classroom management, grading, and syllabus creation. The theory and research supporting each of these areas was also extensively discussed. Instructor: Dr. Rachel Smallman Graduate Student Instructing, 2013 (Spring) 2014 (Spring) Weekly meetings provide insight into improving teaching quality by focusing on observing established excellent university instructors, discussing effective in class teaching exercises, and developing syllabi/exams.
