Is chocolate popular in your country? 6. Why do people like chocolate? 7. Do you think people use chocolate differently now than in the past? 8. Is chocolate good for our health? 9. Have you ever given chocolate as a present to someone? Why? Sample Answers: Speaking Practice Test 4 1. Do you like sweets or chocolate? Well, chocolate is my all-time favorite. After working my butt off all day long, I usuallydecompress with a chocolate bar. 2. What s your favorite flavor? To be honest, I m addicted to chocolate, I do have my all-time favorite flavor, which is the white chocolate. Since I have a sweet tooth, dark chocolate would be too bitter for me. Meanwhile, milk chocolate just isn t sweet enough. So white chocolate is just a perfect fit. 3. How often do you eat chocolate? Well, although it s quite pricey, I usually buy myself a box of hand-made dark Belgian chocolates when I receive my wages. 4. When was the first time you ate chocolate? page 1
2 To the best of my recollection, it was 20 years ago when I ate chocolate for the first time. The 7-year-old me was over the moon/on cloud nine/deliriously happy when eating something that moreish. Now that my taste changed though, still I enjoy having some dark chocolate after working hard all day long. 5. Is chocolate popular in your country? There are a variety of chocolate brands with different price range and quality available in the market nowadays. Thanks to the health benefits that it offers for human, consuming chocolate at a suitable level is encouraged. The sweetness of chocolate also makes it a common present that men choose to give their beloved women in special days, especially Valentine s Day or International Women s Day. 6. Is chocolate good for our health? Scientifically, chocolate provides human a number of health benefits. Firstly, eating chocolate helps improve our mood and lift our spirits, even when we re under pressure. Secondly, consuming chocolate at a reasonable amount is good for cardiovascular system. Interestingly, chocolate has been proved to contain antioxidants, which benefits women as well. However, if people have an over-consumption, it can pose a dire threat to their bone density. 7. Do you think people use chocolate differently now than in the past? Well, I have never ever thought about it. However, I suppose that people living in this modern life prefer eating chocolate than their ancestors. In my country, the number of chocolate consumption is on the rise, especially in young consumers. 8. Have you ever given chocolate as a present to someone? Why? Yes. The sweetness of chocolate also makes it a common present that people choose to give their beloved ones in special days, especially Valentine s Day or International Women s Day. Vocabulary All-time favorite (noun) favorite of all choices, during all times working my butt off (idiom) work really hard Decompress (verb) sit down and chill All day long (phrase) throughout the day page 2

Part 2 Describe a famous person that you admire/describe a famous person that you are interested in Who is this person What is their specialty Why do you admire him Sample Answers In my to-meet list, there are so many well respected celebrities whom I am desired to meet and spend time with. However, I would like to share about Pele, who is nicknamed as the greatest soccer player around the Globe. Initially, I really need to kick off with the point that Pele was just seventeen when he first played in World Cup in Sweden of 1958 for Brazil. Despite his very young age, he was selected for the national team participating one of the biggest sport competition on the planet. Back then, he was not the star player but when his teammate was hurt, Pele went into the game. He immediately scored goal and Brazil won the World Cup. By his amazing aptitudes and skills, Pele was feared by other teams. The Brazilian government even named him as a national treasure. It is not doubtful to say that Pele is one of the biggest factors making Brazil s soccer so well known. His last World Cup was in Mexico in Brazil scored 4 goals against Italy to win the World Cup for the third time. Another point that I would like to share is that Pele owns an admirable career that every soccer players crave for. Pele holds many soccer records such as having over 1000 goals in his career. He was nominated athlete of the Century in 1980 and became a member of a soccer Hall of Fame in Although he s now retired from professional competition, Pele is still considered page 3
4 as a great inspiration for soccer players and lovers. Outline: There are a multitude of well respected celebrities whom I have a burning desire to have chance to talk to. However, the public figure I want to share with you today is [ ]. Main ideas: Who is he?: Lead vocalist song composer guitarist Born and grew up in.==> embark on his singing career in.. How did you know about him? 10 years ago when he joined a nation-wide singing competition ==> catch a glimpse ofhim on TV ==> hooked by his outstanding performance/ fall in love with his voice/good-looking/personalities (gregariousness, sense of humor, creativeness in singing/composing..) Why famous? The most known for his hits released in early 2000s ==> produce worldclass songs and awarded international prizes Care for his fan > free concert/show for fans Personalities ==> devote time/love/money/effort to helping the disabled/poor Why you liked him? -Say no to scandals Remarkable albums/concerts Personalities ==> set a prime example for young people Conclusion: Adored by all people A very decorated singer (many awards) extraordinary human being Part 3 Check out some questions and sample answers about young people living separately from their parents. 1. Why do young people want to live separately? I think living separately has some benefits. Youngsters will learn how to (1) appreciate the time and (2) manage their own life. On the one hand, they learn how to split the time between working, studying and time for themshelves. On the other hand, for those who leave their parents for work, they would (3) reduce the burden on their parents. They can (4) sustain their page 4
5 own lives and no need to depend on anyone 2. What is the difference between living alone and living in a group? I guess the first difference is more (1) privacy when living alone. We don t have to care about what roommates think when we (2)mess up the room or party all night. However, life is more (3) tedious and dreary when people do things alone. Living with friends enables people to have less burden on money and make life easier. Also, people can have(4) lifelong friends by living together. Those are the benefits that make living in a group ideally 3. What are the benefits of living alone? Well, for me, living alone allows people to (1) enjoy their company to the fullest. They can invite friends to come over and have fun without bothering anyone. Besides, people can concentrate better when they live alone. Their roommates may (2) throw a party and whether they like it or not, they would be (3) distracted by the noise so work would be less productive. The last thing is living alone helps people handle daily lives as independent people. They will find themselves (4) in control of everything and be more mature 4. What skills are needed to live alone? From my point of view, there are some basic skills needed to live alone. The first thing is cooking. Many people don t know how to cook and often have fast food. This isn t only harmful to their health but also (1) consumes lots of money. Also, I recommend people (2) stay on top of bills because they may(3) end up in debt without watching their money. They should (4)set money aside for emergencies too. Last but not least, learning to balance schedule. It is important to learn how to (5)do multiple things in a day. They need to be flexible and willing to schedule time for activities, work, and social engagements. 5. What are problems when living separately? I see the biggest problem is living separately (1) isolates people. It creates space among family members and may be the (2) root of conflicts later on. Besides, safety is not guaranteed and (3) undesireable things like robbers can come up any time. People need someone to (4)side by side to protect and feel protected when they live alone 6. When can people live separately? In my opinion, people should only live separately once they are economically independent. It shows that they are mature enough and can sustain their own lives. page 5
6 7. Why do some people like living with small family? I suppose living in a big family brings more (1) tension and even fights amongst family members. Besides, the more people live together, the less privacy they have.if they stay with others all the time, there will be less time for them to enjoy their own company page 6
