1 Coach s Code off Ethics As coach, I... promise to observe and comply with Karate Coach s Code of Ethics at all times when coaching for safee and positive development of athletes and students and will adhere to following specifics as set downn below I will maintain coaching accreditation, keeping up to date with latest coaching practices, principles of growth and development of young people, and First Aid or Resuscitation and ensure my assistants do so also. Operate within rules and spirit of Karate, promoting fair play over winning att any cost. Provide a safe environment for f practice of karate-do and competition training Ensure that proper equipment and facilities used meet safety standards and are appropriate to age and ability of all athletes/students and situation Adequately plan all activities which will be closely supervised Develop clear written rules for f trainingg and general conduct, operating within rules and spirit of Karate and teach athletes/students to do same Keep adequate records on administrati ion, coaching and athletes/students Athletes/students warned of inherent risks of sport Encourage and support opportunities for people to learn appropriate behaviours and skills. Support opportunities for participation in all aspects of Karate. Treat each person as an individual. Respect rights and worth of everyy person regardless of ir ability, gender, sexuality, cultural background or religion. Display control and courtesy to all involved within Karate. Respect decisions of officials, coaches and administrators in e conduct of all areas of Karate. Whereve practical, avoid unaccompanied and unobserved one-on-one with people under age of 18 activity (when in a supervisory capacity or where a powerr imbalance will exist) years. Adopt appropriate and responsible behaviour in all interactions. Never ridicule or yell at a young athlete/student for makingg a mistakee or not coming first nor allow or athletes/studentss to do so. Be reasonable in my demands on athletes/students and or coaches Do not coach while under influence of alcohol or drugs d nor allow or coaches or athletes/ /students to do so Adhere to AKF Inc policies on no smoking in dojo and no drugs or doping including blood or genetic doping, in and out of competition and dojo. d Signed: Dated:... 3 Code of Ethics Agreementt Form All coaches wishing to become registered with NCAS are required to sign an individualised coach s code of ethics and behaviour agreement form. 4 Updating Policy for NCAS Coaches C WHAT IS UPDATING? Updating is a policy that equires coaches to complete a variety of education activities over four year accreditation period. Updating aims to ensure quality coaching and officiating by maintaining current knowledge and practice. WHY UPDATE? Updating also keeps coaches in contact with most up-to-datee techniquess and coaching methods. Updating can play an importantt role in ensuring that coachingg environment is safe for f all participants and reduce likelihood of coaches becoming involved in legal actions. Updating ensures that Karate and ASCC have an up-to-date register of active coaches Updating ensures that coaches stay abreast of rule changes in Karate. K In order to update, coaches must, each year during ir four year accreditation period: PRACTICAL COACHING: Bronze: 20 hours Silver: 30 hours Gold: 50 hours These can be achieved by coaching in e following: dojo training club competition training training camps demonstrations self-defence classes school programs lecture at a coaching course mentor a trainee Bronze coach Provide details on club letterhead, preferably signed by chief instructor or director FURTHER EDUCATION Attend two of following each year General coaching seminar (eg. conducted through a state coaching centre, state institute/academy) Strength and conditioning course (ASCA approved) Disability Education Program modules Sports massage course Sports related tertiary educationn eg. Sports Coaching, Human Movement, Phys Ed Sports Administrationn course Leadership/communication training programs (or related topics) Attend a related NCAS course eg. a triathlon coach attends a a Level 1 Swimming course Teachers may submit work related course for approval Work place courses such as Communication and Conflict Resolution may be consideredd for approval RSA Update One-Day Program complete next level of qualification re-do current level of qualification (lecture or correspondence) ) Record details on Coach s Activity Record (See Conditions below) ) page 1/1
5 Updating Policy for NCAS Coaches C RISK MANAGEMENT AND ETHIC ISSUES Alll NCAS coaches must: CONDITIONS Hold a current recognised First Aid course/ /CPR, or Sports Medicine Australia Sportss Trainers course Provide proof of suitability to coach children eg Blue card, workingg with children card, Police check Sign Coach s Code of Ethicss Agreement on renewal There is no maximum or minimum number of hours that can be claimed for any of above. Activities must be verified in Coach Activity Record by an a authorised person eg. convenor of course/workshop, national or state coaching director. The number of hours claimed must be equal to numberr of hours spent on that activity. Updating activities cannot all be completed in space of one year. They must be spread over four year period ie one program per year. RENEWAL All coaches must submit ir annual updating record to ir State Coaching Director by 31st December each year or a datee specifiedd by ir State Alll coaches must submit ir renewal one month prior to ir expiry date RE-ENTRY If a coach does not update ir accreditation as specified in Policy, AKFF Inc may: require coach to re-do entire training program require coach to undertake a specified number of activities from above lists.
