3 A L I G N Y O U R P U R P O S E P R O G R A M - S T E P T E N : I L L U S I O N IN THIS LESSON: Piercing Your Illusions Take the Detour... It s Worth It Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one. Albert Einstein Here in Lesson 10, we reach a stage of our journey where we begin developing a new level of clarity. We ve gotten used to asking questions... doing the research... and we ve begun to better understand the worlds we exist in. However, with new levels of clarity come new kinds of information. As we upgrade our awareness, we also upgrade the kinds of experiences and knowledge we gain as a result. And so at some point, the new information you receive may fly in the face of the old information you d always believed. In short, you come face to face with Illusion. Illusion in and of itself is not necessarily a negative or bad thing. The key is to know when you re facing an illusion and to be willing to glimpse the Truth beyond or within it. For example, many spiritual and religious paths tell us that the reality we experience on a regular basis is in fact a form of illusion. Specifically in Hinduism and Buddhism we find the concept of maya, a sanskrit word meaning illusion or the dream of duality in the manifest universe. We see this hinted at within science as well, where we see that all matter and manifest reality is at its core nothingness. There is more space in solid matter than matter! What we experience in our day-to-day lives is actually a barrage of waves and particles and quanta of information that our brain receives through our senses and constructs into a tangible, sensory reality. However fascinating all of this can be for our spiritual evolution and scientific curiosity... when it comes to our daily living and the tangible desires we have in life, even if it s all an illusion the illusion in this case obviously still matters. The key is to simply see your reality as relative, maleable, and therefore within your power to change. Through this step we discover that as we change and evolve, what we believe to be true can also change and evolve and that s okay. 3 Copyright 2013 Choice Point with Jaime Mintun -

5 A L I G N Y O U R P U R P O S E P R O G R A M - S T E P T E N : I L L U S I O N P I E R C I N G Y O U R I L L U S I O N S Illusion is such a wonderful construct in our lives because it is not untrue so much as a veiling of the truth. Therefore we can use our illusions to help us discover our truths. For example, as you begin to journey toward a new goal, even something as simple as weight loss, you may find that at the beginning you ve gathered information that leads to the confident belief that a Paleo diet or low-carb diet is the answer to losing weight. You strike forward with your chosen diet regimen and after a week or two your body plateaus and even seems to reject or dislike the foods you were eating. So you begin to tap into your body s intelligence and intuition, and you notice a strange physical craving for foods not in your regimen. Perhaps fruit or starchy vegetables... rice or yogurt. If you follow your intuition, you decide to try these new foods which largely go against the popular diet beliefs and regimens. Yet a funny thing happens... you start rapidly losing weight again. And you ve discovered a way of eating that works particularly for your body and its needs. What has happened here is that you began your journey based on the general expert concensus which is a wonderful place to begin. Yet, as you made your way forward, your own experience and intuition led you toward new ideas and an entirely different conclusion about what your specific body needed in order to reach your goal. In essence, you discovered that the general concensus diet was not the best diet for you and your body the belief that it was hence is an illusion. Yet believing in and acting on that illusion in the beginning helped you gather new information and experience (and intuition) which led you to your personal truth, and you still achieved your goal. 5 Copyright 2013 Choice Point with Jaime Mintun -

I T S W O R T H I T There is little to teach here about our illusions other than the fact that we should not be afraid of them, or of discovering what we once believed is no longer true for us. If we go off-track in pursuit of an illusion and that detour allows us to first identify that illusion, and then pierce it to unveil our truth then that detour was a required and integral part of our journey. Honestly, the hardest part in determining what is illusion, and what is truth, is that once we are invested in a belief we will fight tooth and nail to always uphold it, sometimes no matter the cost or consequence. Seeing something for the illusion it is actually is the easy part. The hard part is admitting it to ourselves or anyone else, and truly letting it go. Also remember that pursuing an illusion doesn t mean you made a mistake. It just means you will zig and zag your way to your destination. This is actually the most natural way to make your journey: rivers bend and curve to the landscape and never carve out a straight line. It is the same with flight: any pilot will tell you that in order to reach a destination, he must plot a course that constantly zigs and zags, course correcting every few minutes. It is impossible to stay the course in a straight line and make it to where you intended. So as you continue along your journey, make it a habit of welcoming your illusions, and give yourself permission to see them as such. Make deliberate detours and through them, you may find you actually reach your destination sooner. All it takes is being willing to see it as a detour, and course correcting to get back on track. 7 Copyright 2013 Choice Point with Jaime Mintun -
