EXPOSURE BASED SAFETY SAFETY IN ACTION 2018 Session Slide 1 # 2018 DEKRA North America, Inc. or its subsidiaries. All rights reserved.
Safety Brief In case of emergency: Contact the security dispatcher at extension / or Guest Request Operator, Extension will also work, but dial the number so the hotel can direct responders to your location. Alarms: A fire, tornado, or emergency siren will be followed by an announcement over the speaker. In the event of an Evacuation, guests are instructed to go to the nearest stairwell and exit the building. Do not use elevators. If Tornado, proceed to the ground floor ballrooms Plaza, Orlando, Regency, or Windermere whichever is closest. AEDs: The Hyatt Regency Orlando hotel security officers are trained in CPR, basic first aid, and AED operation. AEDs are located throughout the complex Slide 2
Why It s Time for a Revolution in Behavior Based Safety. DEKRA Organizational Safety and Reliability Slide 3
What is the Revolution? We call it Exposure Based Safety (EBS Technology) Exposure includes Physical Hazards, Behaviors and System Issues Enhances the 4 Elements of BAPP Technology Includes Brain Centered concepts from Neuroscience Emphasizes Serious Injury/Fatality (SIF) Exposures Harnesses Latest Technology for Data Collection and Analytics Slide 4
We live in a different era Regulatory Compliance Management Systems Employee Focus Leadership Centric Science + People Driven 1970s 1980s 1990s 2000s Today Slide 5
Industrial Revolutions Slide 6
Smarter safety for a smarter workplace Industry 4.0 describes today s automation and data exchange in manufacturing through cyberphysical systems, the Internet of things, cloud computing and cognitive computing. Industry 4.0 creates what has been called a smart workplace Slide 7
RESEARCH SHOWS US WHAT WORKS Methodology Matters: DEKRA s BAPP technology reduces incidents by up to 45% by the third year. Participation vs Intensity: Having fewer observers doing more observations is more effective. Localize, not Generalize: Results are more effective when observers provide feedback on fewer areas. Specialization Matters: Clients who focus on fewer critical issues, who adapted top changing risks and who coached observers also did better than those who did fewer of these activities. Slide 8
Why focus on Exposure? EXPOSURE vs Injury All Exposure is not Equal Slide 9
Safety is: Controlling exposures for self and others. The absence of injury does not mean the presence of safety. Focus on Exposure. Slide 10
COMPREHENSIVE EXPOSURE FOCUS ADDRESSES ALL TYPES OF EXPOSURE: BEHAVIORAL PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENTAL PROCESS-RELATED HAZARDS ADDRESSES BRAIN- CENTERED HAZARDS COVERS EXPOSURES TO SERIOUS & FATAL INJURIES Slide 11
