2 G e n e r a Course Description This comprehensive multi-day continuing medical education program in rhinology focuses on the advanced endoscopic management of sinus and nasal disease, functional disorders of the nose, cosmetic disorders of the nose and applications of the most modern technologies, including image guidance systems for sinus surgery. A hands-on laboratory dissection with contemporary equipment will be available. Pathophysiology and treatment of chronic sinusitis, including the role of fungi, will also be discussed. Course Learning Objectives n Identify and assess patients for sinus surgery n Identify complications during and after sinus surgery n Formulate rationale for surgery based on the pathophysiology of chronic rhinosinusitis n Identify the link between chronic sinusitis and fungi n Identify the different approaches to septorhinoplasty n Identify complications of septorhinoplasty n Identify appropriate techniques to repair nasal valve disorders Intended Audience n Otorhinolaryngologists n Facial Plastic Surgeons n Otorhinolaryngology residents n Nurses and allied health personnel interested in Rhinology Accreditation The (UB) School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Note to Laboratory Participants To insure the best experience for participants, the number of participants for the Cadaver Lab is limited to 30 participants. Each participant will have a partner with whom he or she will share a station, a specimen and all instrumentation. Please bring your surgical loupes and headlamp for labs. Niagara Falls and an Indian Summer Niagara Falls is something one has to experience to truly believe its wonder. Beautiful, powerful and mysterious, the falls are one of the most popular destinations in the world. Incredibly, over 2.5 billion gallons of water flows every hour over the falls heading north to Lake Ontario. Other than plane or helicopter, the Skylon Tower offers the highest overhead view of the Falls. Just a 10-minute drive north of the Falls is the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, a horticultural center with nearly 100 acres and over 2300 plant types; it too is home to the world s largest Butterfly Conservatory. Marineland, Ontario s largest theme park attraction, which offers live aquarium shows with killer whales, beluga whales and seals. Last stop is to wine country which starts a few miles north of the falls. And all of these attractions at a time when the weather still is warm and the leaves are starting to turn to spectacular colors. 4 m a t I o n Social Programs Course Dinner, 09/20/2013, Frank Lloyd Wright Martin House Complex Rhinofest 2013 is pleased to be able to offer a free course reception at the Frank Lloyd Wright Martin House Complex. Frank Lloyd Wright ( ) designed a unique residential complex for wealthy Buffalo businessman Darwin D. Martin and his family between The most substantial and highly developed of Frank Lloyd Wright s Prairie houses in the Eastern United States, The Darwin D. Martin House received National Historic Landmark status in The house is considered by leading Frank Lloyd Wright scholars as one of Wright s finest achievements of the Prairie period and, indeed, of his entire career. The complex consists of five interconnected buildings designed as a unified composition, including; the main Martin House and a pergola that connects it to a conservatory and carriage house with chauffeur s quarters and stables, the Barton House, a smaller residence for Martin s sister and brother-in-law, and a gardener s cottage added in The landscape design for the grounds of the complex is highly integrated with the overall composition of buildings. Faculty The faculty assembled for this course includes recognized leaders in their fields. They will be teaching the most advanced techniques, with the most advanced equipment available to all participants. The pro-dissections offer the opportunity for all participants to observe master surgeons do what they do best. The laboratory section will give each participant the opportunity to operate on fresh specimens with expert help available. The clinicians and researchers who performed the studies will present the newest findings and its link to fungi. 3
