4 World No Tobacco Day Awards Two Special Director-General's Awards to AMOSAPU (Associação Moçambicana de Saúde Pública) - Mozambique Mr. Micheál Martin TD, Minister for Health and Children, Ireland for their leadership in Global Tobacco Control 2004, and in recognition of outstanding contribution to tobacco control

5 World No Tobacco Day Awards Another 32 World No Tobacco Day awards were offered to people and organizations from around the world, nominated by all 6 WHO regions. They received a certificate of appreciation in recognition of outstanding contribution to tobacco and especially to work relevant to tobacco and poverty during the year.

15 Follow-up actions and next steps Tobacco on other organization's agendas The Commission on Macroeconomics and Health recognized tobacco is a major risk on the burden of disease The EC held a round table on Tobacco Control (TC) and Development Policy Series on Poverty and Health by the OECD and WHO admitted a strong link between tobacco and poverty UN Secretary General's report to ECOSOC on the UN Task Force on TC links tobacco to poverty and the MDGs

16 Next steps Continue adding tobacco to governmental and intergovernmental development agendas Pannel discussion on the XI UNCTAD Quadrennial Conference in São Paulo (June 2004) Tobacco and poverty: an issue in the LAC meeting (Brazil, October 2004) UNDP to consider including tobacco and poverty in their agenda
