ATTUD Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependency ATTUD is an organization of providers dedicated to the promotion of and increased access to evidence-based tobacco treatment for the tobacco user. Transdisciplinary Tobacco Use Research Center(TTURC): National Tobacco Cessation Collaborative (NTCC): resources and sign up to receive e-newsletter CS2day CS2day integrates current science with a thorough assessment of physician/healthcare professional needs into innovative and traditional educational formats. These formats include a wide landscape of educational offerings, from conferences at local and national levels to Web-based, print, CD -ROM, and interactive cases to television formats and hand-held tools. Performance improvement projects focus learning on improving individual and system practices. CS2day builds on the Lessons Learned from the dissemination of the 2000 Public Health Service Tobacco guidelines. Updated 2008 guidelines will form the foundation for key messages and measured outcomes that ultimately lead to an overall decrease in smoking rates in the United States. Each physician and healthcare professional is encouraged to participate in multiple CS2day educational programs to reinforce learning. The project utilizes Moore s evaluation scale to assess outcomes from knowledge acquisition to population health. Clinician-Assisted Tobacco Cessation is a comprehensive, turn-key, tobacco cessation training program that equips health professional students and licensed clinicians with state-of-the-art knowledge and skills for assisting patients with quitting. The program is based on principles set forth in the U.S. Public Health Service Clinical Practice Guideline for Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence.

2 2 Ask. Advise. Refer. Ask. Advise. Refer. is ADHA's national Smoking Cessation Initiative (SCI) designed to promote cessation intervention by dental hygienists. The Ask. Advise. Refer. approach integrates the 5 A s (Ask, Advise, Assess, Assist, Arrange) into an abbreviated intervention that remains consistent with recommended guidelines. A national network of state SCI Liaisons has been established to disseminate pertinent information to hygienists on how to incorporate Ask, Advise. Refer. into clinical practice. As part of the Ask. Advise. Refer. campaign, dental hygienists will refer their patient/client to quitlines as well as to webbased and local cessation programs. Quitlines are telephone-based tobacco cessation services that have been around since the late 1980's. Most are accessed through a toll-free number and provide callers with a myriad of services including educational materials, referral to formal cessation programs, and individualized telephone counseling. They are a significant resource universally available to dental hygienists. Evidence has revealed that quitlines are convenient, effective and preferred by smokers. TobaccoFreePatients TobaccoFreePatients is an online training program in how to provide clinical tobacco interventions based on a National Cancer Institute educational program, Help Your Patients Be Tobacco Free. Courses were reviewed by tobacco experts and feature evidence-based, clinically relevant information, key points, interactive questions, patient handouts, clinical forms and helpful links. The Oral Health Network on Tobacco use Prevention and Cessation (OHNTPC) It was apparent that education and training of oral health professionals in tobacco use prevention and cessation has thus far reached only a limited number of faculty and students of dentistry and dental hygiene worldwide. Therefore, a decision was made to launch an international network of collaboration. Its mission is to connect oral health professionals interested in both providing and teaching tobacco use prevention and cessation, share resources regarding education and training for faculty and students using a common terminology, provide a platform to exchange experiences and knowledge, announce upcoming research workshops, conferences and other educational opportunities in the field. Tobacco Cessation - You Can Quit Smoking Now! US Department of Health and Human Services, Offices of the Surgeon General Clinician and consumer materials. Tobacco Free! Curriculum As a dental/dental hygiene collegiate educator, you know the importance of addressing tobacco-use in the dental health curriculum. A major barrier to providing this curriculum is TIME - or lack of it - to research and develop a comprehensive tobacco control curriculum. Davis , formerly Leading the Way, Helping Our Patients be Tobacco Free has been carefully researched and developed to provide dental/dental hygiene educators with a ready-made, comprehensive tobacco control curriculum. The curriculum includes: Faculty Curriculum Guide Six training modules with talking notes Toolbox Tobacco Cessation Leadership Network The vision of the Network is to help increase the capacity in every state to establish effective, sustainable, and affordable services to help tobacco users quit and stay quit. The goal of the Network is to link state and national cessation leaders together to: o Share implementation knowledge including tested strategies, case studies, and personal experience; o Share implementation tools and resources; o Collaborate on new and/or combined implementation approaches and strategies.

3 3 Smoking Cessation Intervention in Dentistry Tobacco and Oral Health Learning Blog APTNA The Alliance for the Prevention and Treatment of Nicotine Addiction (APTNA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational organization that works in collaboration with healthcare organizations and providers throughout Virginia to promote smoking cessation. APTNA provides training, consultation and resources to healthcare providers in Virginia in order to assist them in implementing research-based clinical practice guidelines designed to reduce tobacco use among their patients. Services include workshops and training events tailored to participants' needs, access to resource library materials, consultation and technical assistance. Resources include training manuals, presentation slides and handout materials, and sample patient education materials. Focus is on healthcare providers serving high-risk populations (patients who are most likely to suffer negative consequences from their tobacco use), including: pregnant women, low-income populations, minorities, and substance abuse or psychiatric patients. The University of Wisconsin Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention (UW-CTRI) UW-CTRI holds a unique place in tobacco control. The Center combines ground-breaking tobacco research with practical application. This has resulted in the UW-CTRI achieving a national reputation for expertise in the study of tobacco treatment and dependence. UW-CTRI also provides services to thousands of Wisconsin residents through its outreach program and its Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line, which provides cessation service to anyone anywhere in Wisconsin. Oral Cancer Prevention: An Online Community for Dental Practices Educational cases, patient education and practice tools, forum and ask a question. ASK and ACT: A Tobacco Cessation Program The American Academy of Family Physician s tobacco cessation initiative, Ask and Act, features online materials you can use to help your patients quit, including a practice toolkit. The initiative encourages you to ask your patients about their tobacco use and then act on that information. Tobacco Technical Assistance Consortium The Tobacco Technical Assistance Consortium (TTAC) is dedicated to assisting national, state, regional and local tobacco control programs, coalitions, networks and other interested parties to promote CDC-recommended program and policy best practices. We provide customized training support in various formats, expert technical assistance, and a wide variety of products and tools to help all levels of tobacco control efforts be successful. TTAC is located in the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. The Tobacco 101 Version 3 Training Kit provides all the materials needed to conduct a two-day training for public health practitioners who want the information and tools necessary to understand tobacco control programs and the strategies used to reduce tobacco use. The curriculum was updated and revised in March, All materials are downloadable. National Networks for Tobacco Control and Prevention The Center for Disease Control and Prevention s (CDC s) Office on Smoking and Health funds six networks that each serves a different segment of the U.S. population. The purpose is to have them work individually and together to reduce tobacco use throughout the United States. Motivational Interviewing This web site is intended to provide resources for those seeking information on Motivational Interviewing. It includes general information about the approach, as well as links, training resources, and information on reprints and recent research. In addition to the contributions of Drs. Miller and Rollnick, the site has benefited from the input of several members of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), and hosts information about the MINT organization. In addition to

4 providing information on Motivational Interviewing, the site serves as a resource for agencies or organizations who wish to find a skilled and knowledgeable trainer to assist them in implementing or supplementing current motivational services. Global Tobacco Research Network GTRN aims to consolidate the weakly-linked, multi-sectoral community of researchers and organizations involved in the broad spectrum of past, current and future global tobacco control research. GTRN members share the desire to reduce the burden of disease and death caused by tobacco and who, together, have the knowledge and skills to sustain future global tobacco control research efforts. GTRN offers its members a range of services, including searchable databases of researchers and research organizations involved in the conduct and financial support of tobacco research throughout the world, an interactive database of international tobacco control literature from over 30 countries, and a growing repository of tobacco control research tools. Treatobacco.net Treatobacco.net is for those working on the treatment of tobacco dependence throughout the world. It presents authoritative (see contributors) evidence-based information about the treatment of tobacco dependence, under five headings: Demographics and Health Effects, Efficacy, Health Economics, Policy, Safety. Key findings, commentaries and supporting references have been collated and reviewed by around 50 international experts and the evidence is periodically updated to incorporate new research. Referenced slide kits and other resources can also be downloaded from the site. Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco The Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) is the leading association focused on this special area of research. SRNT was founded in 1994 to coordinate and advance research on a broad array of topics ranging from the pharmacology of nicotine to the societal influences on use of tobacco. The Society has flourished in the years since its inception and now has over 1100 members, in more than 40 countries around the world. Smoking Cessation Clinical Intervention Collaberative effort of Morehouse School of Medicine and Mercer School of Medicine, it requires a broadband connection. Web-based module intended to teach medical students techniques of smoking cessation/prevention. Based on the USPHS Tobacco Guideline and includes several videos modeling approaches to discussing tobacco with patients of different ages and in different circumstances. (RealPlayer is required) Nursing Faculty Education Guide:Tobacco Use and Associated Health Risks Integrating Smoking Cessation into Daily Nursing Practice Learn simple and effective techniques to talk to patients about smoking cessation. The Training Enhancement in Applied Cessation Counseling and Health (TEACH) Project The Training Enhancement in Applied Cessation Counseling and Health (TEACH) Project is geared toward training health care professionals in the public, private and non-profit sectors who provide counseling services to people who use tobacco. The program is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills in the delivery of intensive tobacco cessation interventions. Our General Brochure provides an overview of the TEACH project.
