Hamilton syringes are manufactured to be accurate within ±1% of nominal volume, and with precision within 1%, measured at 80% of total scale volume. The design of our barrel and plunger dimensions assures high levels of accuracy and precision. The Hamilton Company Quality System is ISO certified. Can Hamilton syringes be used on humans? Hamilton syringes are not manufactured for human use. To discuss potential off label uses for Hamilton syringes please contact us. Is the volume of fluid in the needle part of the total volume of the dispensed fluid? When using a Hamilton syringe, the volume in the needle (called dead volume) is considered constant and the volume being dispensed is absolute. The same dead volume is maintained throughout aspirate and dispense stages. What are the most versatile syringes made by Hamilton? Gastight syringes are the most versatile syringes. Plungers are replaceable if they get bent. Any of the Metal hub, Kel-F or Removable needle allow for the replacement of needle if they become bent or plugged. How can I sterilize my syringe? Chemical sterilization is the preferred method for all Hamilton products. Autoclaving syringes should only be used as a last resort and only where specifically stated. Syringe sterilization is not straightforward. Not all syringes can be autoclaved. Is the Digital Syringe automated or manual? The Digital Syringe is a manual syringe with a digital display which allows you to clearly see the aspirated volume. The Digital Syringe is not automated, it will not dispense with the touch of a button. It operates like a typical syringe, but there is no guessing as to the volume being aspirated or dispensed. What does the "s" mean in a s or 6s gauge needle? The "s" represents a smaller ID for the needle and a thicker needle wall for better durability. For example, a 6 gauge needle has an OD of 0.46 mm and an ID of 0.6 mm while the 6s gauge needle has an OD of 0.47 mm and an ID of 0.1 mm. The 6s has half the ID of the 6 gauge needle. The difference in the wall thickness also nearly doubled with 6s gauge having a thickness of 0.18 mm while the 6 gauge is only 0.10 mm. "s" indicates a added strength. 4 Hamilton Manual Syringes SYRINGES Hamilton Modified Microliter Syringes 7000 Series These syringes are designed to dispense volumes below μl. This requires an extremely small tungsten plunger wire that travels to the tip of the needle. The resulting design has zero dead volume and is accurate below 0 nl. The 7000 series syringe is used for dispensing minute liquid volumes and features a Modified Microliter design. The series employs a plunger wire inside the needle to accurately dispense ultra-low volumes. The needle is bored to extremely accurate tolerances to accommodate the plunger wire. With the plunger inside the needle, the standard dead volume inside the needle is eliminated. The bottom half of the barrel accurately measures the liquid sample and the top half supports the plunger. In addition, the top section of the plunger is thicker to further reduce the risk of bending the plunger. These syringes require half of the standard stroke length making them ideal for one-handed operation. The plungers and barrels are not interchangeable or replaceable. These micro-volume syringes have a very close tolerance between the plunger and the barrel which creates a liquid-tight seal without parts such as O-rings that eventually wear out. These syringes are ideal for aqueous and organics samples that are not prone to precipitation, crystallization or bonding with glass. 6 Hamilton Manual Syringes SYRINGES Hamilton Microliter Syringes 800 Series The 800 series syringes are a reinforced plunger version of the 700 series. The 800 series has the same liquid handling capabilities as the 700 series, but with the addition of a blue removable aluminum syringe holder that attaches to the flange of the syringe. The syringe holder prevents heat transfer, dispense inaccuracies, plunger blow outs and plunger bending during injection. A two-piece extended plunger further eliminates the risk of breakage. A friction screw at the top of the barrel can be adjusted to give the user some control over dispensing speed and prevent the accidental removal of the plunger. In addition, the syringe holder can be fitted with different barrel/plunger assemblies to cover a range of volumes. Recommended Use: This syringe is intended for applications where the plunger on a 700 series syringe might be bent. Excellent for novice users.
