2 About this Internship Manual The New Jersey Prevention Network (NJPN) has a grant from the New Jersey Department of Human Services, Division of Addiction Services, to raise awareness about career opportunities in addiction treatment and prevention and to recruit college students into the field. Addiction treatment and prevention agencies across New Jersey employ thousands of dedicated individuals working hard to make a difference in the lives of the people they serve. And more are needed. When someone is suffering from the disease of addiction, professional help is often the first step on the road to recovery. Professionals in the addiction treatment field provide counseling, support and help individuals get back on their feet. They keep families together and help make broken families whole again. Internships can be a great way for students to learn more about a career and gain valuable experience that can lead to full-time employment. Because we want to help students that may be interested in the field of addiction treatment and prevention, NJPN has compiled the following manual, which lists internships that are available throughout the state. Students with a variety of different majors may be interested in learning more about the internship opportunities in this manual. Some of those majors may include: o o o o o o Counseling Education Public Health Psychology Social Work Sociology Internships related to substance abuse prevention begin on page 3. Internships related to substance abuse treatment begin on page 15. For more information about careers in addiction treatment and prevention as well as NJPN s Addiction Training and Workforce Development Program and the free trainings we offer for those entering or already in the addictions workforce, visit 2
