3 1.0 Isiolo County Experiences Floods The heavy downpour experienced in the last two months has adversely affected Isiolo residents, including our beneficiaries. Those who reside in areas prone to floods, like Bula Pesa, are especially affected. Some of our beneficiaries have reported loss of property as their homes were submerged by water. Their monthly food rations were also swept away by the floods. It was however a reprieve for our beneficiaries and Isiolo county residents as the County Government provided relief food of 2kgs of rice per household. The county government also donated mosquito nets to the residents. Meteorological reports indicate Isiolo is among the Counties that has experienced heavy downpour. Figure 1: Floods in Isiolo County 1.1 Advocacy Progress Report On The Roof Over My Head Initiative. The housing initiative stalled in the month of April due to the government ban on logging. The ban resulted in an increase in the cost of construction by 9% for a 12 x 12 house with a washroom. Nevertheless, the project is set to resume next month. MIC plans to construct 100 houses by the end of

4 SECTION B - FOOD DISTRIBUTION 2.0 Food Donations Food distribution began on the first week of April and ended on the third week. The distribution period has been extended to cater for all 500 beneficiaries. This exercise is interactive because it involves coordination between volunteers and MICF staff. 5 2.1 Door to Door Deliveries Out of the 500 beneficiaries, 7 beneficiaries had their food rations delivered to their homes. These beneficiaries are bedridden and do not have someone who can collect food on their behalf. 6 3.0 Health and Mortality SECTION C BENEFICIARY UPDATES A balanced diet and regular exercise are strongly linked to better health outcomes in elderly persons. A series of routine screening tests and preventive measures are recommended for the elderly.
