5 Country Profile (Myanmar) Myanmar Population millions (2014) Multi religious and multi cultural country(buddishm, Islam, Christianity and Hindunism ) Four percent of the population are Muslims. There are 2266 mosques or Masjids in the whole country. Buddhism is the main religion of Myanmar. Halal food and practices were well established since several centuries ago in Myanmar by the muslims. 5

7 Halal food Halal meaning : lawful/permissible The food as well as drinks use by a Muslim should be lawful (halal) and pure(layyib) The Prophet (PBUH) said (All) good and wholesome things are made lawful for you. Halal food is consumed by muslims and non muslims alike in my country and is an emerging popularity because halal foods are wholesome, clean, hygienic and safe. 7

Data on Halal food and cosmetics consumption pattern and behaviour by muslims as well as non muslims need to be surveyed and established. Organized and authoritive Halal certification processes need to be improved and updated with scientific technologies and standardized guidelines. 72
73 Conclusion Halal food are quite popular among Myanmar muslims and non muslims. The purchasing power of utilizing halal products is increasing year by year. Myanmar is the potential market for halal industries both local and abroad. Information, education and communication about halal food and practices need to expanded and promoted. 73
