How Does Weight Loss Benefit Your Mind How Does Weight Loss Benefit Your Mind 4
Weight Loss Improves Self-Esteem Many overweight people suffer from a low self-esteem. When we lose weight we feel better about ourselves. Feeling better about oneself increases self-esteem and confidence. Our spirits are lifted, and this lift starts to show in our day-to-day personalities. We begin to want to take care of ourselves more, which impacts our overall health.
Low Self-Esteem= High Risk of Depression Many overweight people are depressed, causing them to become less sociable and more withdrawn. Weight loss increases self-esteem. This leads to increased self-confidence. Having self-confi dence helps prevent depression and results in people becoming more outgoing and sociable. Studies, as noted by Weintraub and Bray, have shown that people would rather date drug addicts, thieves, alcoholics or ex-cons before they would date an obese person.
Being Overweight Impacts Your Lifestyle Overweight people make very good caretakers. They help everyone. They put others before themselves. The problem is that they are so busy taking care of everyone else that they never get around to taking care of themselves. As we lose weight, our choice of spouse changes. Overweight people usually don t aim high. They settle for anyone who loves them. They don t think a Good Catch would be interested in them. In fact, many overweight people remain single for this reason. They don t think they can get a date, let alone get married. Overweight people tend to earn lower incomes. This is because they settle for whatever job they can get. If an overweight person and a thin person both with the same qualifi cations applied for the same job, the thin person would probably get hired. This is unfortunate, but true. Studies shows that overweight people earn $16,000 less per year on average.
Stress! Stress! Stress Makes Us Fat! How Does This Happen? When we are stressed, our body produces higher levels of cortisol. Cortisol makes it hard to lose weight and causes fluid retention. Overweight people are stressed because they are overweight This stress raises their cortisol level The cortisol makes them fat They become more stressed produce more cortisol and get fatter. It is a vicious cycle. Relax and Exercise Exercise reduces cortisol levels Exercise builds muscle, and muscle burns fat Exercise increases our endorphins making us feel happier and motivated.

Sleepless Nights? Overweight people have trouble sleeping. When we don t get enough sleep it creates stress on our bodies. As mentioned before, stress makes us fat. Over eating also may lead to poor sleep cycles. When you lose weight, you sleep better.
1 / 2 Hour A Day, Every Day The Stress- Free Way Everyone should take 30 minutes a day for themselves. We should give ourselves ½ hour a day for our body and mind. Exercise, take a hot bath, read or do whatever you like to do to relax. Make sure that during this time, cell phones are turned off. Have your spouse take the kids and vice versa afterwards. This is YOUR time to de-stress and enjoy life a little.

Overweight People Develop A False Sense Of Image When people are thin, and then gain weight, they often still see themselves as thin. It s not until they see themselves in a mirror or a photo that they notice their weight gain. People have seen themselves in pictures and said Is that me? You should always know your weight by getting on the scale at least once a week.
Pessimist or Optimist Pessimistic people fail long before they start. A pessimist will say things like It s all my fault, or I can t do anything right, or I fail at everything I try to do. An optimistic person will generally have a reason/excuse for not succeeding. For instance they may say So and so talked me into doing it. I could have tried better. Next time I ll do it differently. People who are optimistic about losing weight are more successful than those who are pessimistic. When we are pessimistic we get STUCK and we can not move on. When we are overweight we do not like being that way. The only way to get out of it is to do something about it. We need to get UNSTUCK and move on. We need to switch from being pessimistic to being optimistic.
Weight Loss Makes Flying More Enjoyable Would you like an extension for your seat belt? How many times have you heard that when you were boarding an airplane. How often do you sit in your seat hoping no one will sit next to you and if someone does, that they are thin. Did you ever catch the look on the other passengers face when they realize that they have to sit next to you? Rhonda was an obese, diligent, dedicated worker who went above and beyond her job description. However, she was unappreciated and underpaid. When I asked Rhonda why she didn t quit and look for another job, her response was I can t. Have you seen the size of me? No one will want to hire me. Besides, most offi ces have those chairs with the arms on them and I can t fi t in them.
