5 Time Use Data for gender statistics Based on 126 answers received through the 2012 Global Review of National Gender Statistics Programmes (UNSD and UN Reg. Commissions) 30 Time use surveys since Number of countries Conducted TUS Data available N= 68 countries with time use data since 2005 (data available at UNSD on unpaid work for 51)
6 EDGE project Evidence and Data for Gender Equality EDGE Project A 3-year initiative (UNSD and UN Women) Overall objective: Improving the integration of gender issues into the regular production of official statistics for better evidence-based policies
7 Specific Objective/Results 1 International platform for compiling and Health Education disseminating data and metadata on health, Employment education and employment; 2 Methodological report on standards for collection of comparable gender indicators related to entrepreneurship and asset ownership; 3 Results of pilot testing in selected countries 5th Global Forum in Mexico in 2014 Aguascalientes, Mexico 3 5 November 2014 Main focus: review methods/analysis and data to measure and monitor gender equality and women s empowerment in the following thematic pillars : Women and the economy Violence against women Time Use Political participation The environment and women in armed conflicts 14
8 In Conclusion Increasing demand for time use statistics from different stakeholders: For measuring and valuing unpaid work, life-work balance, supplement labour statistics, well-being; Target in OWG SDGs outcome document Will require: Promotion of multi purpose scope for TUS Strengthening country capacity on TUS and on measuring and valuing unpaid work Finalizing ICATUS for adoption by UN Stat Comm Also, IAEG-GS as the established coordinating mechanism on all gender statistics topics/issues Mandated by and reporting to the UNSC Composed by both national and international statistical community; Min Set of Gender Indicators Agreed by the UNSC as the basis for national production and international compilation of gender stats/inds
