2 Orange, a multi-service operator in Africa and the Middle East, and a player in digital transformation Worldwide Worldwide 263 million customers Africa, Middle East 3G 4G 4G in 2018 Morocco Senegal Guinea Bissau Sierra Leone Guinea Liberia 150,000 employees, 5,000 of whom work on innovation Mali Burkina Faso Côte d Ivoire million customers 20 countries 1 billion invested each year Niger Tunisia Cameroon Egypt Central African Republic Democratic Republic of the Congo Botswana Jordan Iraq Madagascar Mauritius ICTs * are a prime driver of development for women Launched by Orange in 2015 along the lines of the Orange for Development (O4D) programme, the programme promotes women s self-sufficiency through the use of digital technology offering essential Les services TICs tailored : un to levier their needs, développement with support incontournable pour les femmes from local stakeholders. Digital inclusion for women aims to boost their contribution to sustained social and economic growth. In Africa, as in the Middle East, women are the core of the family. Women manage most aspects of everyday life, from healthcare to food, agriculture, schooling, management of the family finances, and trading. Regardless of their status they are an essential part of the social apparatus. This is why the digital inclusion of these millions of informal micro-entrepreneurs constitutes a formidable growth driver for social and economic development. Providing women with access to the essential services that will facilitate and improve their daily lives through an ordinary mobile phone is part of a broader approach driving progress and shared value-creation. According to GSMA** Between 2015 and 2020, the digital and financial inclusion of women is forecast to generate economic growth in emerging countries valued at US$170 billion. Widespread access for women to ICTs via mobile phones would boost per capita income by 14% by 2020 and by 20% by Essential services Agricultural advice and information Healthcare advice and information (pregnancy monitoring, vaccination campaigns, etc.) Money transfers, microfinance, micro-saving and micro-insurance Sources: GSMA 2015, OCDE 2008, FAO 2011, Goldman Sachs 2008, Financial Afrik 2014 Anonymisation solutions to avoid harassment Support for women entrepreneurs or starting a professional activity 50 % of the population in Africa and the Middle East is female. 3 is the Orange for Development model driving self-sufficiency for women Three action drivers Connectivity Three Key Principles Rolled out via following dedicated discussions among stakeholders. Adequate offering By offering connectivity services in accordance with the realities of the countries, Orange promotes the digital inclusion of women. For example, in Egypt and Morocco, Orange provides a top-up service that does not require to mention one s mobile phone number. Women are reassured about the risks of harassment and are no longer afraid to use their phones. Listening Orange has carried out two stakeholder discussion campaigns in Niger and Senegal. It was the first time such programmes were run by a telecoms carrier, with interviews carried out by Orange staff involved in the project. Partnership Support for digital ecosystems Supporting Entrepreneurship By supporting today s talents, society will benefit tomorrow. This is why Orange is an engine driving digital education for women in Africa and the Middle East with a range of support initiatives from women entrepreneurs ranging from tutoring to incubation, acceleration, competitions, and more. Innovative ICT solutions for sustainable development Orange for Développement Value-added services Help with the basics Orange provides services designed to improve people s everyday lives, with a special focus on women. These services meet basic needs and benefit a wide range of sectors, from healthcare to safety, farming, education, entrepreneurship, and financial services with Orange Money. aims to forge a network of partnerships as it seeks to better integrate the local eco-system. These include partnerships with NGOs, charities, and donor organisations, which are developing programmes aimed at women. Experimentation The aims are to: better understand the social and economic challenges to which women are exposed at grass-roots level; identify the telecoms solutions best-suited to the needs expressed; identify the means of removing any obstacles. 4 5

4 Orange delivers essential services tailored for women Entrepreneurship and the local ecosystem: two essential drivers Services for Farming Women make up 49% of the farm workforce in Africa. Orange gives them access to marketplace and food price consultation services, together with advice on growing methods and e-commerce. In Senegal, for example, the Sooretul online sales platform is a showcase for farm produce transformed by groups of women Services for Healthcare Women living in rural areas are a long way from health centres. They can now receive text or voic messages providing advice on monitoring pregnancy, the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, and vaccination reminders for their infant children. In Cameroon, for example, Gifted Mom is an SMS and voice message platform that provides personalized information to pregnant women and young mothers. Services for Education Through partnerships with organizations such as Open Classrooms or the French national center for distance education (CNED), Orange provides educational content and courses on mobile and computer. Accessible everywhere and at any time, they encourage the education of women, who no longer have to separate from their families to join a training centre, or who often have to work during normal school hours. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, for example, Orange provides access to educational content from major international players in online education such as the CNED. This content has a specific and very advantageous mobile Internet rating. Orange Money (37 million users in 17 countries) Orange provides simple, useful, mobile banking services for women, including money transfers, bill payments, maternal and child healthcare cover, individual and group savings plans, and micro-credit. In Mali, for example, women can save on an Orange Money account via the Sini Tonon service in order to subsequently release an insurance payment should complications arise during childbirth. Linguère Digital Challenge The competition is designed to help Senegalese women realise their digital-related social entrepreneurship projects. Orange and its partners provide support for the three winners to help them develop their enterprises. Financial and technical support A workspace Training in managing a business Data hosting Provision of office automation software Integrating the local ecosystem Training and rewarding women Orange Egypt has created 10 digital women centers that help 1,500 girls and women improve their skills and their economic situation by using information technology. Orange Cameroon set up a special Orange Social Entrepreneur Award for Women in Africa and the Middle East. Organized in 18 countries, this prize rewards innovations that meet the needs of populations of the African continent in areas such as finance, health, education, agriculture... Every year, in addition to the winner of the special women s prize in Cameroon, Orange rewards female winners in the other participating countries. Orange is co-developing essential services in partnership with donor organisations, international NGOs, foundations, and local community associations with fine-grained expertise and grass roots knowledge.
