Their help is vital in moulding the objectives of a project as per their requirement. Some of the challenges were- Decision regarding changes in project activities and project areas delayed initiation of the project.
9 The Story of Goondpur Village Village Goondpur is an example of poor sanitation situation with no availability of drainage for water and non functional toilets. The issue of bad sanitation conditions was raised by our NGO partner in Gram Panchayat Meeting. The discussion revolved around Swachch Bharat Abhiyan started by the government. A resolution was sent to the Block District Officer for construction of drainage and making the village defecation free. The passing of resolution led to construction of drainage and community has adapted hygienic practices in their daily lives. The efforts of SHE project has made the village of Goondpur- a village with better sanitation.

13 Project at a Glance Project Location : 3 Villages (Pai, Pipalwas and Undari) in Udaipur (Rajasthan) Context: The area has issues of Water, Health and Sanitation. The villages and schools in Udaipur have improper and inadequate sources of water. There is no community system for control to water wastage. Women in the village do not have access to clean clothes during their monthly hygienic/ menstruation period. Water level uplifted by approx. 3 meters through the interventions and has benefitted around 5000 hectare of land.
16 Key Activities and Achievements 13 Anicut have been repaired and reconstructed in the project villages. 3 RO and water cooler installed in three schools thereby providing safe drinking water for 1000 students. Three libraries established in three schools to promote holistic development of students. 50 soak pits repaired reaching out to 1500 households who are able to store waste water and recharge ground water. 50 Handpumps repaired for easy access to water for daily usage. Formation of one self help group of women. It consists of 10 members. They have been given awareness of financial inclusion, saving and income generation activities. 2 health awareness camp at Pai and Undri village organized. 200 tree pitches for the kitchen garden are ready.
17 The Story of Prathmik Mahavidyalaya, Pipalwas, Udaipur The water and sanitation situation in Prathmik Mahavidyalaya, Pipalwas in Udaipur is very grim as the children and staff do not have access to clean and safe drinking water. In this school, children were unaware about the importance of hygienic practices resulting in health problems and water borne diseases. After initial discussion with the school staff and students concerning their major health and sanitation needs, physical activities were undertaken such as establishment of RO and library in school to resolve the issue of clean and safe drinking water. Through this intervention in school in Pipalwas, 240 children and school staff easily access safe drinking water from RO. School children and parents were told about the disadvantages of open defecation. After conducting life skill training for students, their confidence level have increased and the drop out ratio has also been reduced and the interest level of students towards education and other activities regarding community development has been increased.
