Recently I was intrigued by an info-graph that depicted the use of the word hope in newspapers of record, literature, magazines, and alike. The image clearly indicated that hope was diminishing in our society since writers were using the word less-and-less. Yet, as we strongly believe in the world of Intentional Peer Support (IPS), hope is the key element to our well-being. Emily Dickinson wrote Hope is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all - And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard - And sore must be the storm - That could abash the little Bird That kept so many warm - I ve heard it in the chillest land - And on the strangest Sea - Yet - never - in Extremity, It asked a crumb - of me. I love Emily s depiction of HOPE. Hope sings a tune without words, and never stops. Hope reacts amazingly to hardships (it s unabashed in the storm). Hope can be found everywhere, from the chillest land to the strangest Sea. And what does hope ask for itself? Nothing, not even a single crumb. In the work of IPS, we purposefully pay attention to move conversations and thinking from fear-based language to hope-based thoughts and attitudes. Hope is essential to our well-being. And hope is what you ll find at our Peer Centers. We invite you, our readers, to visit any of our Peer Centers and engage with members and staff and discover, first-hand, that hope is just one conversation away. See you soon... Women s Retreat Launches Hope in Members Hearts The theme was Achored in Hope and hope is a core essential of Intentional Peer Support (IPS). Every day we work to move from fear-based language to hope-based conversations and thinking. Hope is powerful doesn t demand anything from us. It s just the opposite. Hope gives us life, power, creativity, energy, and more. A huge thanks to Shelby for her creativity and energy in putting this together and sustaining the love-and-care throughout the retreat. Members were overheard saying, This was the most beautiful thing I ve ever attended. The breakfast was absolutely amazing! Loved being with these girls. No-one left the same!
