If so, you will be excited to know that we are helping shape the next group of elected officials and everyday citizens to be involved in their community, give back, and look for solutions. Our Student Leadership Council has taken the place of a traditional Student Council. Rather than holding elections and turning down students that are eager to help their school community, we have opened our leadership roles to all 3rd-5th grade students. In order to participate, these students maintain good grades and behavior. In two months, our Student Leadership Council has already delivered on some of their promises. We are installing a Buddy Bench for students that need a friend, getting more playground equipment, holding a mock election, promoting good character, and making the playground safer. Three members of the Student Leadership Council have made a video explaining their contributions thus far: click here. I am impressed with the group of leaders that we have coming through our school. Who knows, maybe in 2040 we will have a North Elementary graduate in the oval office! Sincerely, Lance McClard, Ed.D. North Elementary Principal STEAM Night: Please make sure to register to attend STEAM night by November 7th. The event will be held on November 10th. We will have several exciting STEAM stations, including robotics, learning stations, free pizza and take-home activities. We hope to see you for a great night of family fun right here at North! Attendance Incentive Please check your child s backpack for their classroom newsletter. It should have information on a November attendance incentive we are very excited about! Picture Retakes: Picture retakes are November 17th. If you would like to have your students photos retaken, please remember to send a new photo form with money on the 17th. If you are doing a direct exchange, send the first round of photos back in with your students. Specific questions may be directed to Cheekwood at (573) 335-0815.

Counselor s report Counseling lessons this month will revolve around service, being grateful for all that we have, and controlling our emotions. We will also discuss charity and how it helps people, especially during the Holidays. Thanks to everyone for making Disability Awareness Month, Bully Prevention Month and Red Ribbon Week huge successes!!! Mrs. Isaac Notice from Our Nurse Cold and flu season is just around the corner. Please help keep sickness to a minimum by reminding your child to cover their mouth when sneezing & coughing as well as washing their hands frequently, especially after coughing, sneezing and after using the restroom. All children must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of Tylenol or Motrin before returning to school. Nurse Kimber Art Remark Hello North Families! First quarter went by very quickly, it's hard to believe we are nearing the holidays! We have discussed several topics such as texture, color mixing, pointillism, tinting/shading and more! This quarter, we will be covering a lot of artists including Van Gogh, Georgia O'Keefe, Picasso, and Monet. As December nears, I am hopeful that we will be able to design ornaments and holiday mementos using clay, watercolor paint, and more! I am enjoying each and every one of your young artists! Miss Hopson Music Notes Happy November! I know we are all gearing up for the 2016 holiday season. Our Kindergarten - 5th graders are working really hard learning, dictating and creating new rhythms. As you know, our K and 1st Christmas Concert is approaching fast. These talented students have been working so hard preparing to show you a "Miracle on North Street I just want to share some final details with you. The concert will be held Tuesday, December 13th at the Jackson High School. Doors will open at 6pm, with the concert promptly starting at 6:30. Everyone is invited to come out and join us as we experience the miracle of giving. Once again, I am proud of our students this year. Musically Yours, Joseph Moore
