Training Course: Sensory Processing & Autism About The Course Many children and adults with autism have sensory problems that can cause difficulties with processing information from the five senses: vision, auditory, touch, olfaction, taste, as well as from the sense of movement (vestibular system), and/or the positional sense (proprioception). It s important professionals supporting people with autism have a better understanding of sensory processing and autism as it can really influence everyday life and behaviour. This Training Course Will: Explore hyper and hypo sensitivities associated with autism and their impact on learning, social interaction, behaviour and everyday environment. Provide you with new skills, practical strategies and advice for dealing with everyday challenges. Discuss current research on sensory processing problems and autism. Provide an opportunity to discuss specific cases brought by course participants and share knowledge. Discuss resources and other materials available to help. The course will be taught through a lively mix of presentation, scenarios, case studies and discussion to ensure your learning is interesting and informative. Who Should Attend? The course should be of interest to: education professionals from mainstream schools, special schools and local authorities; social workers and support workers; health care professionals and others who provide support for people with Autism. Course Tutor: Dr Luke Beardon is a Senior Lecturer in autism at Sheffield Hallam University and has an engaging and motivating style of teaching.
