David Tyree s Annual Charity Bowl Benefiting COC NYC Every year in June, Board Member and former NY Giant, David Tyree organizes our biggest fundraiser of the year, The David Tyree Annual Charity Bowl. David always manages to bring magic to the night with a bus load of Giants players to chat and bowl with the crowd at Lucky Strike in Manhattan. This year s special guest was Sterling Shepard it was an additional treat hosting Saquon Barclay. Emmy award-winning sports broadcast Bruce Beck returned this year to create a unique live segment of Giants players competitively bowing against each. The evening includes a cocktail party and a chance to bowl with a NY Giant. Thank you to David Tyree, the New York Giants and Bruce Beck for your dedication and support in helping us change the culture of poverty. We also recognize and thank our lane sponsors: Anomaly, AIG, Ace Content, Kristen Management Company, Ellington Management Group, The New York Giants, Guy Carpenter, Willis Re, Free Form Agency, RHCR Law, Joseph Travaglione, David Tyree, Franke and Joseph Rodriguez, Rocco Basile, David and Julia Masi. Children of the City (COC) Overview In 1981, Children of the City started as a unique grassroots refuge for children and families in crisis. Our neighbors in Sunset Park were acutely affected by decades of misguided policies and fraying social fabric. COC seized the opportunity to fill this void. Initial counseling and intervention provided a lifeline to over 300,000 homes and 15,000 families while providing basic food and clothing. Ever adapting, recent COC educational programs provide hope and a path to escape their cycle of poverty to over 3,000 children. In 2018 Children of the City Invested $450k in Brooklyn Children & Families Services (Meals, School Backpacks, Personal Hygiene, Home Visists, Monthly Public Outreach, Child Counseling, Substance & Crime Counselling) 30% Overhead (Rent, Utilities, Maintenance) 8% While the COC program is unique, the needs of those in Sunset Park and their neighborhood is not. There are far more children and families in crisis throughoutnyc that the COC needs your help in saving! Charity Bowl as well as other events that support our work. Be an Angel It s a beautiful life when you have a fridge full of food, warm winter clothes, and expectations of holiday celebrations. For families living below the poverty, line winter can be a season of scarcity and anxiety. For many of our participants, the cupboards are bare. They live in shared apartments or temporary housing shelters with a dorm room style portable fridge too small to hold even a gallon of milk. Each year Children of the City provides abundant holiday meals for families at Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as, supplementary and emergency food as need from our food pantry. Our Strong Homes and Create Success program help us identify the many needs of our families through regular home visits. Our trained counselors work pro bono to support our families cope with a myriad of issues so their children can go strong and healthy. Please be an angel and consider making a year end donationto help us continue our services and amazing outcomes into 2019. Your tax-deductible contribution can be what makes the difference in the lives of one of these young ones. Changing the future of a child - What a great way to end the year! To give, just go to our website at www.childrenofthecity.org/donate-now/ Or you can mail a check to: Children of the City 740-40 Street, Brooklyn New York 11232 Changing the future of a child - What a great way to end the year!
