Educational workshop: 3-D Imageguided Adaptive Brachytherapy for Gynecology Using MRI-based Intracavitary Technique Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand 18-19 June 2013
Invitation Delivering High-quality Treatment Requires High-quality Education Nucletron, an Elekta company, collaborates with state-of-the-art hospitals all over the world to develop and deliver high quality brachytherapy education and training programs. Please join us for the 3-D Image-guided Adaptive Brachytherapy for Gynecology Using MRI-based Intracavitary Technique workshop hosted by Chulalongkorn University, which has a broad experience, using MRI-based planning since 2011. Adapted from the European workshops, this program is tailored to the Asian clinical practice of 3D brachytherapy for cervical cancer. Expert professors Richard Pötter and Christian Kirisits from Vienna General Hospital will present their insights and experiences. 2
Meeting Details Organized by Division of Radiation Oncology, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand in association with Radioonkologie e.v Vienna Austria and Nucletron, an Elekta Company King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital is a general and tertiary referral hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. It is operated by the Thai Red Cross Society, and serves as the teaching hospital for the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University and the Thai Red Cross College of Nursing. With an in-patient capacity of 1,479 beds, it is one of the largest hospitals in Thailand. With the adoption of highly advanced technologies of science, medicine, and computer science and in collaboration with Chulalongkorn University s Faculty of Medicine, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital has seen uninterrupted growth in terms of medical studies, research and personnel development. Brachytherapy at Chulalongkorn Hospital dates back to 1951, introduced with the radium and Butterfly silver box applicator, followed by the Earnst applicator in 1957, the Manchester applicator system in 1958, and the Fletcher applicator in 1985. The cesium low dose rate remote control was used since 1980 and changed to iridium high dose rate remote control in 1990. In 2009 they introduced 3-D Imageguided Adaptive Brachytherapy for Gynecology based on CT and from 2011 on, they use MRI-based planning for this technique. 3
Clinical Workshop Method, Workflow, Implementation Workshop Information The program will be led by Dr. Chonlakiet Khorprasert together with the brachytherapy staff of Chulalongkorn Hospital in Bangkok, with Prof. Dr. R. Pötter and Prof. Dr. C. Kirisits from AKH Vienna as guest speakers. Participants will obtain comprehensive practical insight into the clinical workflow of 3D image-guided adaptive brachytherapy for gynecological tumors. Practical issues, solutions and constraints for each participating center are defined during extensive discussions on the practical aspects of implementing MRI image-based brachytherapy for gynecology. 4
