Choose to be innovative with Xemium the new active ingredient from BASF Xemium the new active ingredient developed by BASF s fungicide experts. Xemium : the new active ingredient from BASF Researchers the original SDHI fungicide experts For many years, BASF has offered its customers a broad portfolio of fungicides. The Succinate Dehydrogenase enzyme is one of the most important targets for fungicides and this was displayed by the great success of Boscalid, introduced by BASF in 2003. BASF researchers have now developed Xemium ; a new, powerful active ingredient belonging to the Carboxamide (SDHI = Succinate Dehydrogenase Inhibitor) class. Xemium exhibits strong, lasting activity against powdery mildew and scab in fruit crops. Due to its very high intrinsic activity, Xemium achieves excellent preventative control with very low dose rates in fact the lowest dose rate within the SDHI class of fungicides.
Xemium reaches the target in the fungi more quickly and efficiently than other SDHI fungicides. What makes Xemium special within the SDHI group? To control diseases efficiently, the active ingredient must reach its target in the fungi as quickly as possible. This presents a challenge to any chemistry for two main reasons: a firm exterior shell surrounds the cells of pathogens and the target is located deep in the interior of the fungal mitochondria. A target enzyme is difficult to reach behind numerous lipophilic and hydrophilic barriers. This is a challenge that Xemium meets in a unique way: The Xemium molecule can assume different conformations: Hydrophilic (has an affinity to water), or Lipophilic (has an affinity to lipids or fats) and is thus mobile in both environments. By switching between the molecular conformations, Xemium rapidly adapts to overcome all membrane barriers on its way to the succinate dehydrogenase target. Xemium s molecular structure allows it to pass quickly through lipophilic as well as hydrophilic membranes of fungi. Consequently, Xemium can reach and hit the target in the fungi more quickly and efficiently than other comparable molecules. Xemium has two energetically favoured conformations with different polarity properties... Hydrophilic: Important for movement in cell walls and vascular system. Lipophilic: Important for movement in wax layers and membranes.
What makes Xemium special within the SDHI group? Xemium...... was developed by BASF the original SDHI fungicide expert.... is the latest generation of SDHI fungicides.... has the highest intrinsic activity amongst SDHI fungicides.... controls diseases with the lowest dose rates amongst SDHI class fungicides.... has a specific flexible molecular structure that empowers optimal disease control.... has unique redistribution properties for long-lasting protection.... has the flexibility to be applied at any temperature. After Sercadis has dried on the leaf surface, a portion firmly binds into the wax layer, thanks to its lipophilic properties, and numerous molecules begin to congregate. This results in the formation of crystal splinters with bizarre shapes, which adhere firmly to the rough wax layer. Dew or rain mobilises a small portion of the active ingredient from the crystalline depots. This constant supply of highly mobile Xemium molecules ensures complete and longer continuous protection of the plant. Xemium molecules begin to congregate on the leaf surface. Formation of crystal splinters that firmly adhere to the leaf s waxy layer.
For effective disease control, a dense fungicide surface cover is the most efficient way to prevent infections. BASF researchers found intense redistribution properties from Xemium crystalline depots on plant surfaces. Redistribution is activated by the presence of water and dew, which is often also the driver for fungal disease development. Water and dew do not only support spreading on the surface but also further uptake into wax and leaf tissue. The Xemium active ingredient is highly mobile once inside the plant and quickly distribute to other parts. In practical conditions, growers should not rely on protection of untreated tissues especially during periods of fast new growth. Repeated applications depending on new growth and disease pressure are recommended. Dew or rain mobilise small portions of Xemium from the crystalline depots and activate intense redistribution on leaf surface.
Enjoy superior, best in class fungicide control Loaded with more power than any other SDHI class fungicide, Sercadis inhibits infection and spreading of scab and powdery mildew at very low dose rates. Sercadis protection power increases when applied preventively. Preventive surface protection is the most efficient method to avoid scab infections during spring season when scab infection risk is at its highest level. The extra power of Sercadis gives growers the protection they need under optimal conditions. For scab control, the protection depends on new leaf development and can last between 7 10 days. For powdery mildew, the protection can last up to 10 days depending on disease and weather conditions. % Powdery mildew infection on Golden Delicious leaves. 12 Delan : The Sercadis tank mix partner For the protection of fruit against a wide range of pests and diseases during the growing season, you have to make many decisions in a complex environment. You want to achieve excellent results and fulfil the expectations and requirements of your customers. To achieve sustainable orchard protection, resistance management is an important aspect to consider in planning spray programs. In order to promote fungicide resistance management, Sercadis should always be tank mixed with Delan. Sercadis plus Delan prove excellent miscibility and compatibility paired with outstanding disease control. In addition, Sercadis plus Delan is compatible with Hunter and Regalis (with Dash ). Choose your preferred application timing In many trials, Sercadis has proven to provide excellent disease control in a wide range of temperatures. Sercadis can be used independently of temperature. Sercadis can be used in cold, wet and humid conditions. Many tests in the greenhouse and field showed excellent performance in rainy conditions. The prerequisite for rain fastness is that Sercadis is fully dry before the rain event. If the spray droplets did not dry prior to rain, a further treatment is recommended. Rain events after spray dry-off are not critical due to the high intrinsic activity of Sercadis. 13 Meeting your customers demands When producing fruit you have to fulfil the many requests and standards of your customers. The requests are challenging and sometimes unpredictable. At the same time, you have many regulations and restrictions that limit your decisions. Sercadis applications can be managed to meet the most demanding market standards. Sercadis combines high efficacy with minimal residues. In pome fruit, Sercadis shows favourable residue characteristics, offering a good fit in residue minimisation programmes. Choose to be safe and sustainable Sercadis is suitable for use in IPM (Integrated Pest Management) systems. When used according to the label instructions, this product is safe to bees and other key beneficial species important to IPM systems (IP Coding 75). Sercadis has a favourable tox and ecotox profile and is environmentally friendly in air, soil and water when used according to the product label and Good Agricultural Practice. Sercadis has a high intrinsic activity against the target diseases, allowing low dose rates per hectare for easier and quicker handling time (and reduced quantities of recyclable packaging.) Sercadis is a very safe formulation; it was tested and found to be crop safe in a wide range of commercial varieties of tree fruit.
