Skål International Suva Skål International Suva, #684 July 2017 Newsletter Welcome to our July 2017 Newsletter. Seems June whizzed by us all so fast that we never managed to get a full June 2017 Newsletter together before the July lunch meeting was upon us. For sure High Season is definitely here :) FYI our newsletters are also published on the Skål International website here: http://skål.org/en/clubnews. Photos are in a gallery on Skål website here: https://www.skal.org/en/node/1052 July 2017 Meeting We held our monthly meeting yesterday week: Venue: Holiday Inn, Suva Date: Wednesday, 12th July,2017 Time: 12.00pm drinks & networking and 1.00pm lunch Thank you Mohammed, Doreen and Holiday Inn Suva team for a great venue and fantastic food. Photos can be seen at the end of newsletter. APTC Guest at May 2017 Lunch We had a guest speaker at our May 2017 lunch, APTC Tourism Trainer, Kevin Tabi, who explained their Certificate III in Tourism course to members. Kevin has been a APTC Tourism Trainer in Vanuatu for the last 4 years and has come across to Fiji to set up and run the Certificate III in Tourism course here over the next semester (6 months). Membership Development Cocktails We are heading into our annual Membership Development month where we hold our annual "Everyone Brings a Guest" Membership Drive Cocktails. Venue: TBC, Suva Date: Wednesday, 16th August,2017 Time: 6.00pm drinks & networking Annemarie and Bob have agreed to lead this year s event, so any questions email them directly. 1 Skål Suva International

If you do think you can approach anyone, let's just recap the basics of our Club, Skål International Suva : Skål is a tourism business networking association that meets once a month for lunch meetings Costs are either F$250 a year membership and F$45 per lunch attended, or, F$600 a year that covers all membership fees and lunches for the year (much better deal!) We try to have a meeting in Pacific Harbour Lunch meetings are always 2nd Wed of month Membership gives you the full membership list for Suva members, incl mobile #'s (the most useful part for me...) Let's you go and attend Nadi Club meetings and meet all them Probably a couple of International meetings in Fiji this year New Member Induction We inducted a new member to Skål International Suva at our July 2017 meeting. Skål International Suva President, Stuart Gow presents Club banner to Mohammed Feroz. Welcome aboard! This brings our official number of members at Skal Europe up to 27 members 2 Skål Suva International

Minutes of the 2017 AGM As requested by some members, our Secretary sent out to the Minutes of the AGM by email in June to all members. Any member who did not receive them (check your Junk/Spam folder), email Liku, Club Secretary, directly functions@devosonthepark.com. Pacific Ocean Culture Pond-to-Plate We are excited to have Cathy host our September lunch meeting where she will showcase their Pond-to-Plate concept Cathy would like to cordially invite Executive Chefs, F&B Managers and/or Purchasing Officers from Skål restaurant/resort member properties to come along and see exactly what her company offers. Cathy will sponsor their lunch, i.e not charge the member for bringing them along. Drop Cathy an email to discuss what Pacific Ocean Culture offers, cathy@pacificoceanculture.com LinkedIn Group: Skål International Suva Find the group here: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/6943583 It is a private group, so you need to ask to join, although I think I have added most members who are already on LinkedIn to join by invitation. If you have not received an invite yet, just click the Ask to Join button on the Group Page :) Payment Of Lunches If Last Minute Cancellation Over the last year, the Club has had to sustain losses due to late member cancellations of lunch attendance. The Club has still had to pay for these lunches as they were confirmed numbers. At the 2017 AGM, it was unanimously agreed that we needed to adjust this policy. If a member cancels lunch within 48hours of the lunch, after having confirmed, then lunch fee is payable. i.e. if you confirm lunch then either cancel on Monday/Tuesday or are a no show, then you will still charge for lunch. The Club has to pay the host regardless if member shows up, so this ensures that members carry their own share of costs. Sign In Sheets For those of you who attended any lunches this year, you'll have noticed a new system put in place to keep track of our substantially bigger Club now. Whenever you come to a lunch meeting please seek out the Treasurer (Mrs Doreen Huon) and sign in on the Register. At the same time the Treasurer will collect any lunch or guest fees from you. If you have any outstanding account/invoice, that is the time when the Treasurer will have the receipt book as well, or if you have made an online payment and need a receipt, now is your moment! Please help us out and be pro-active in signing in each meeting. 2017 Lunches We have confirmed lunch venues for the rest of 2017. 09-Aug-17 - Tanoa Plaza confirmed 13-Sep-17 - Pacific Ocean Culture Pond-2-Plate confirmed 11-Oct-17 - Paradiso provisional 3 Skål Suva International
