MESSAGES FROM THE PRESIDENT Sorry no President s message in September. Gladys and I were dealing with our home being flooded by hurricane Hermine. We are getting back to normal again. Our September General Membership meeting was very good; I want to thank all our members who came to the meeting. Your participation and input is very important to the club. Our unopposed officers for 2017 are David Souza for President, Sue Kenny for Treasurer and Gina Calhoun for Secretary. We will be holding an election for the Vice President s position and Directors. Members running for Vice President are Brent Boyles and John Driscoll and for Directors, only two can be chosen, are Linda Magee, Ken McConnell, and Charlie Parrott. Ballots are to be turned in by Sunday, October 16 th and they will be counted at the club on the evening of Monday, October 17 th by Bobbi Callaghan, Jesse Manno and Sue Falcone. Our Friday night dinners with Karaoke have been a big success with lots of our talented members entertaining us with their favorite songs. Please join us on those evenings, you do not have to be a professional singer to join in. Just take the mic and belt out your favorites, you will have an enthusiastic and admiring audience! Coming up on October 14 th is our Pink Flamingo Party in support of Breast Cancer. All proceeds are going to be donated to our local Hernando County Breast Cancer Support Group to help pay for mammograms for women who can t afford the cost. This is an important charity and I urge all our members to make reservations in support of Breast Cancer. This summer we have had to do some very expensive repairs to the club building. We had to have the gable ends totally rebuilt at a cost of $9000 and then we had to replace an air conditioner unit in the lounge at a cost of $4000. These costs have used up our savings and run our available funds very low, it is imperative that we rebuild them. To support our building fund, we are having a raffle with the winner getting a 4 day trip for two to fabulous Las Vegas staying at the MGM Grand. The trip includes air fare, transportation between the airport and the MGM Grand and other perks. The trip is scheduled to February but you can change those dates at your own cost. Each ticket is $25 and they are in books of 10 tickets. I hope all our members have taken a book of raffle tickets to sell to their family and friends, this is very important for our building fund. The club s thanks go out to the Parrotts for helping Carol in the kitchen not only while Dottie was gone on vacation but most Friday night dinners. I know that Carol and Dottie both sincerely appreciate all that they do. I also want to thank Chuck Greenwell and Bruce Campbell for weeding the front flower beds. It was quite a job as the weeds were taking over the place! They haven t looked so nice in a long time. See you soon at the club. Cal Holland
