I hope everyone is enjoying their last bit of summer as we all gear up for another year at Assistance League of Pomona Valley. Our Cerveza Fest at Padua Hills Theatre has taken shape and will be here in a few short weeks. We have Claremont Craft Ale, Taqueria El Sol, Photoboothie, and music all booked and ready to serve you and our guests. We have opportunity baskets ready to go, decorations painted and taking shape, plus last minute details coming together. I really appreciate all the input and help that was volunteered this summer and I certainly couldn't have pulled this off without the dedication of our Padua Committee. Let's all get those orders in and invite family, friends, neighbors, co-workers etc. Just a reminder that active members receive 1 free ticket for themselves (non-transferable) to use at the event and the obligation is $100 item (bought or donated) for an experience basket. Let's all make this an event to remember. Our Grant money from CDBG has been announced for the Dental Center and Operation School Bell and we were gifted with a wonderful chunk of change. The Dental Center was awarded $11,249 and Operation School Bell received $8,293. Roger and Stephanie have been brainstorming all summer to ensure we are able to utilize all funds awarded us. I wanted to share with everyone that if you are considering making a donation to Texas for the Hurricane relief that you can do so through our National Office at www.assistanceleague.org. It will be on the home page under Assistance League in the Community. Monies will be sent to our sister chapters affected by the hurricane to ensure that Operation School Bell stays up and running along with their other programs. Please consider making a donation to show our support during this extremely difficult time. Hope to see all of you at Tuesday s meeting on September 5 th at 9:30a.m. Rsvp yes or no to Lynne Kirchhoff. Cathy Harden Page 1

UMEMBERSHIP Welcome back, everyone!! Hope that your summer was restful and relaxing!! Please make welcome our two newest members: Linda Facer and Stephanie Mann. Both of these ladies have jumped in already to add their talents to making our Padua Cerveza Fest successful and fun. Labels with their contact information will be provided to everyone at the September meeting to be added to your rosters. For anyone needing the information in the meantime, it is as follows: Linda Facer 21357-2 Hollyhock Dr. Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91739 817-559-2800 linda.facer2@gmail.com Stephanie Mann 1509 Shirley Place Pomona, CA 91767 626-536-2103 smarie115@yahoo.com Please let me know by Friday, September 1 st if you are UNABLE to attend our September meeting on Tuesday, September 5 at 9:30 a.m. at the Chapter House. (lynnekirchhoff@earthlink.net) ~ Lynne Kirchhoff DENTAL CENTER In July, we were notified we received a generous $11,249 from the CDBG request for the Dental Center. This means that we need to work extra hard this next year to service new clients. Carole Lyles will present to the Pomona School Nurses on September 19 th and Jane Hubbard will present to the Health Service Assistants on October 20 th. There are several new staff members at PUSD and hopefully this will help generate clients. Pomona City Councilwoman, Elizabeth Ontiveros-Cole, a nurse at Pomona Unified School District is an adamant supporter of Assistance League. She has seen first-hand seen the good that we do for the families of Pomona. ~Jane Hubbard ASK Kits Please remember to bring to the next meeting any travel size shampoo, conditioner, lotion, bath gel and soap that you have from your travels to use in our ASK Kits. Anything over the usual 50 to 60 that we use in the ASK Kits over the year, I will be donating to our church for their upcoming "Bag It Sunday." I have been doing this for the past couple of years because we usually have had lots of extras and so far we have tons of bath gel! Thank you!!! ~Lisa Frazier UCORRESPONDING SECRETARY Birthday card sent in July to Kathee Elliott Birthday cards sent in August to Stephanie Roberts and Laura Romero ~Loie Johnson HEADQUARTERS We are scheduling a clean-up on Saturday, September 2 nd at 8 a.m. Let us know if you can make it (nitzibark@gmail.com). Please bring your clippers, gloves and trimmers. We have 3 bids for the parking lot redo and will take to board in September. ~Nitzi and Keith Barker Page 2
