Member Highlight May 2018 Highlight Alice Helmke Tulsa Chapter Member since May 2009 If you would like to nominate someone to be featured as our Member Highlight please contact admin@tcospa.org What was your first job after passing the CPA Exam? I was an auditor for a public accounting firm when I passed the exam. I knew that public accounting wasn t for me, so after I passed the exam, I left the firm for a role in Financial Reporting with an energy midstream company. Where did you receive your accounting degree? The University of Tulsa. My degree is in Accounting and Information Systems. What type of accounting do you practice? None! For the past 18 months, I have been loving my Systems Analyst role in IT. I work with the accountants as I support the financial systems, but I m out of the debits and credits business! How do you give back to the community? I am very proud and excited to support Camp Fire and the impactful work we are providing to thousands of children through our afterschool, youth leadership, and camp programs! Camp Fire also puts a focus on engaging the families with the work we do with their children via events throughout the year. I have served in various officer roles on the Board of Directors, including Treasurer, of course! How do you benefit from your Tulsa Chapter membership? The primary benefit I receive is the CPA sessions. I have found that I can apply many of the topics to my work at Camp Fire, especially as I have transitioned out of a career in accounting. What would someone be surprised to learn about you? See next question! What do you do for fun and entertainment? Well, not everyone would consider this fun, but I enjoy running and use it as a means to travel the country. I have the goal to run a half marathon in every state (I have 29 completed)! What book are you currently reading? Heart Rate Training - riveting stuff! Name one short term goal? I guess I have several depending on which aspect of my life you re asking! At work, the goal is to complete a system integration by June 1. Camp Fire has plans this year for new growth and aims to serve 30% more youth than last year. With respect to running, I plan to complete state #30 in Indianapolis in May! 5
