Things are still coming together for the year. We have a change to our application. NSC will no longer be offering the MSA membership option since there is no longer a discount to join MSA through the club. Last year I believe we only had five members join MSA via the club membership and one of them was me. This change will not affect most of you. I did order my trail permits through MSA when I sent in my dues. I am one step closer to being ready to go ride. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at our up-coming events. The Northside Snowmobile Club Halloween party and General Membership meeting is just around the corner! Come on out and enjoy the afternoon with food and festivities. Don t forget the trail cleaning weekend coming up as well as the safety and etiquette classes. NSC trail stickers are ordered and will be available at the Halloween party/general Membership meeting. The applications received thus far will get stickers mailed back to you the week of the 23 rd. Think snow! Trail Maintenance Trail Maintenance Do not use driveway! Our first trail maintenance will be Nov. 4th and 5th. We are planning on meeting at the red barn between 9:00am-9:30am. Please mark the date on your calendar and come help get the trails ready for the coming snow! To the left is a map of the meeting location and where to park. If you have any questions please give me a call. Drive here! Look forward to seeing you there! TJ Milleson BARN Page 2

Land Acquisition Northside Club members, Welcome to a new snow season! Six weeks from now [Dec. 1] hopefully we will be enjoying the great outdoors as we ride the club trails. Remember 4 inches of snow is required and frozen ground before you venture out. We are working to get the necessary permissions from land owners. More than forty land owners are to be contacted each year. Clearing and marking trails is next up. All of this requires time and commitment by workers. Pitch in and get involved! We have fun as we work together. My primary responsibility is land acquisition but we all wear many hats and strive to get the work done to ensure the trails are ready before the snow falls. See you on the next work day. Safety This year s the snowmobile safety class will be held on December 9th from 9:00am to 4:00pm at the Marshall Regional Law Enforcement Center located at 714 North US 27, Marshall, MI. The class is open to all ages and there is no charge for the class. Students must be 12 years of age or older to receive their certificate after passing the course. Please call the Calhoun County Sheriffs Department to register during business hours so we can get a approximate count of students. The phone number is 269-781-0880. This course is also on-line but there is a charge after passing to print the certificate. The NSC board also talked about offering a Trail Etiquette discussion meeting on Saturday, November 25th at the Eagles on North Capital from 4:00pm to 5:30pm if we have enough interested members. If you would like to attend please call me at my shop 8:30am to 5:30pm Monday-Friday or 8:30am to Noon on Saturday @ 269-781-3951 or Terry @ 269-209-2630 by November 18th. Ten or more wanting to attend would be good. Thanks, Greg Page 5

Publicity/ Newsletter Looking through some old newsletters I can tell you we have come a long way with our printed materials. With the help of a computer and printer my job is much easier then what past publicity chairs had to do to create a newsletter. Old newsletters were typed using a typewriter and then ads were taped to the typed articles and photocopied. This started in the early to mid 80 s from what I can tell. Back in the 70 s it was just a plain typed paper! When I was browsing though the past newsletters I came across this gem. Most people who have been around the club recognize Larry Crandall. He has been involved, I believe, since the club started. This is an article from the July newsletter, 1987. Enjoy! Happy Riding! Jeff Gagnon Newsletter Editor Page 6
