2015 OUTCOMES & CARE REPORT The Heart Center at Primary Children s Hospital

Overview of Heart Surgery Beating National Benchmarks The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) is a national non-profit organization that compiles data and outcomes to create benchmarks for heart surgeries. Primary Children s Hospital participates in STS reporting and continues to exceed national benchmarks, developed with data from contributing children s hospitals. >> More information can be found at STS.org Primary Children s STS Average Overall Cardiac Surgery Survival Rate Jan 2013 - Dec 2015 97.5% 96.9% Cardiac Surgery Survival Rate by Procedure Jan 2012 - Dec 2015 Truncus and Norwood are the most complex and difficult heart surgeries in children. We have some of the best survival rates in the country, far exceeding national benchmarks. Median Postoperative Length of Stay by Procedure Jan 2012 - Dec 2015 Getting Kids Home Faster Primary Children s dramatically outperforms benchmarks for getting kids out of the hospital sooner, while providing excellent care. This puts less stress on the family, improves the quality of care, and lowers costs.

OUTCOMES Comparing Our Heart Program with Other Children s Hospitals We participate in the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC 4 ). This collaboration works to improve the quality of care and outcomes for congenital heart disease. Data represents outcomes from 25 Children s hospitals across the country. >> For more information visit pc4quality.org POSTOP COMPLICATIONS 100% 80% 60% 40% 20% 0% HOSPITAL LENGTH OF STAY 15 LEGEND PCH OTHER HOSPITALS PC4 - Avg DAYS 12 9 6 3 0 CARDIAC ICU - LENGTH OF STAY DAYS 5 4 3 2 1 A National Leader Data from the PC 4 shows that the Heart Center at Primary Children s is a national leader in outcomes, shorter length of stay, lower mortality, and fewer surgical complications. 0 CARDIAC ICU - Mortality 10 8 PERCENT 6 4 2 0

Overview of Heart Care Clinic Visits With more than 12,000 appointments each year, our physicians have the experience to identify and manage all types of heart conditions. Outpatient Clinic Visits - By Year Clinics Clinics are held at the main hospital campus & locations throughout Utah, Idaho, Wyoming & Alaska Echocardiograms - By Year Echocardiogram An echo is a non-invasive ultrasound image of the heart including its chambers, walls, vessels and valves. Echos are the primary tool used to diagnose heart defects. Cardiac MRI & CT Scans - By Year MRI/CT Scans Only 2% of patients require more advanced imaging to get higher resolution images of the heart. Our team has the experience and training with children to get the best images to answer complex questions.

VOLUMES Cath Lab Procedures - By Year What is Cardiac Catheterization? This procedure is done to gather information about the heart and blood vessels and can even treat certain types of heart conditions, such as: closing small holes, repairing leaky or narrow valves, and opening or closing blood vessels. Electrophysiology Procedures - By Year Remote Monitoring 3 board-certified EP physicians provide comprehensive arrhythmia treatment. This includes procedures involving placing a pacemaker, defibrillator, or removing abnormal pathways in the heart that cause tachycardia. Cardiothoracic Surgery Cases - By Year Heart Surgery 3 board-certified pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons perform heart surgeries ranging from simple to complex, with outcomes that meet and exceed other top pediatric heart centers in the country.
