Last week s meeting The Rotary Club of Lucaya presented Us TOO with a donation during their weekly meeting at the Ruby Swiss Restaurant on Tuesday April 25th, 2017. Dr. Andrew Moxey, Chapter Leader of the UsToo Grand Bahama prostate cancer awareness support group accepted the donation from Billie Jane Ferguson, Community Service Director of the Rotary Club of Lucaya. The Rotary Club of Lucaya is so proud to partner with the UsTOO Grand Bahama organization yet again this year. Our donation was made possible from the Moonlight Jazz Extravaganza. Our president, Carol Rolle, who lost her husband a few years ago to this same disease, noted this as one of her mandates, for us to give back to them, Ferguson said. The Community Service Director stated that the Rotary Club of Lucaya are keen to assist UsTOO in their continuous program that offers men free screenings and the help they need. It is important that we continue the fight to eradicate cancer, Ferguson stated. Upon receiving the donation, Dr. Moxey thanked the Rotary Club of Lucaya for their continuous support, and recognized their efforts in helping to bring awareness to the public about the importance of men getting screened on an annual basis. Last weeks guest speaker, Mr. O. J. Saunders, addressed the Rotary Club of Lucaya on the topic Pivoting to Growth. This message was timely and enlightening to all in attendance.
Youth service refers to non-military, intensive engagement of young people in organized activity that contributes to the local, national, or world community. Youth service is widely recognized and valued by society, with minimal or no compensation to the server. The Youth Service supports young people aged 16 to 19 to engage in education, training, and work-based learning, and to have the life skills to be successful when finding a job and to have an independent future and also to be a contributing member of the community. Youth Service offers guidance and practical support to young people. It is about stepping in early to help build potential through education, training or work-based learning.
