Many of these programs offer extra incentives for your attendance to help keep you motivated along the way! You can also earn Wellness points by doing Wellness Challenges (10 points each one each month) and by completing the Healthy Living Guidelines video quizzes, both found on the Healthy Rewards website at https://wellsuite.com/sfmchealthierus/ws/. You also can earn one point per Healthy Choice item (indicated by HC on your receipt) purchased in the Tuscan Sun Restaurant. Receipts must be turned in to Wellness. Look for opportunities to earn Wellness points throughout the year via email! If the Wellness department does not have your email address, please email us at healthyrewards@sfmc.net and let us know you would like to be added to our list. Please note that we now offer a number of evening classes; be sure to check whether a class is am or pm. BEEF (Body weight exercise that is Easy, Effective and Fast) 25 points Tuesday, January 6, noon-12:20 pm Tuesday, February 3, 8-8:20 am Tuesday, March 10, 8-8:20 am Wednesday, April 29, 8-8:20 am Fitness Plus - Athletic Republic This program will review specific guidelines and recommendations for quick and easy bodyweight resistance training that can be done at home, at work, or on the go! A two-week exercise log will be provided at the end of class. Completion of the exercise log is required in order to receive all 25 Wellness points. Located on the second floor of Fitness Plus in Athletic Republic. Bone-density Screening 15 points Tuesday, January 20, noon- 1 pm (Health and Wellness Center 1st floor by Group Fitness Studios) Monday, February 16, 3:30 pm-4:30 pm (Wellness Department) Tuesday, March 17, noon-1 pm (Health and Wellness Center 1st floor by Group Fitness Studios) Monday, April 27, 3:30-4:30 pm (Wellness Department) Call x5399 for an appointment (strongly recommended!) Find out if you are at risk for developing osteoporosis. Screenings are recommended for women older than age 50 or anyone with the following risk factors: Maternal history of hip fracture History of smoking Thin build (less than 127 pounds) On medications associated with bone loss Personal medical condition associated with bone loss History of fracture(s) after minimal trauma Bottoms Up! What s in Your Drink? 5 points Third Tuesday of each month January 20, February 17, March 17, April 21 Tuscan Sun Restaurant (stop in for 5 minutes) Drop in to sample the beverage of the month. Program Descriptions 1/15 5

DASH Diet 25 points Friday, January 30, 1 pm Friday, February 20, 11 am Thursday, March 12, 4 pm Wednesday, April 22, 7:30 am Check out the diet plan that has been developed specifically to prevent or lower high blood pressure. The DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Diet class will cover the background information on the diet and give you general guidelines to follow. This class may be taken for partial credit under the Blood Pressure portion of the Healthy Rewards goals if your blood pressure reading is outside the desirable range, or you may use the 25 points for the Wellness portion. Express Screening (for enrollment/re-enrollment in Healthy Rewards OR for B or C follow-up labs) 25 points First Thursday of the month EXCEPT in January January 8, February 5, March 5, April 2 7-9 am Health and Wellness Center Conference Rooms 1 and 2 These screenings are ONLY for employees whose annual evaluations are due (as well as spouses who are covered under an SFMC insurance plan) and includes having your blood work drawn (be sure to fast overnight), blood pressure checked, height/weight, etc. Your online Personal Wellness Profile (PWP) MUST be completed prior to participating in the screening. A separate appointment with Wellness is required to review results. Dependents (age 18 or older) of employees who are enrolled in the SFMC insurance plan are also eligible to participate in a screening during the time of the employee s annual evaluation. 25 Wellness points are awarded for Express Screenings. Fit or Fat? 15 points Tuesday, February 24, noon Wednesday, March 25, 7:30 am April 20, 3:30 pm (Takes about 10 minutes) Located in the Wellness Department Pre-registration is strongly recommended. Call x5970 Do you want to learn what your percent body fat is? Would you like to know if it is in the ideal range for your age and gender? Then this is for you! We will be measuring percent body fat using skinfold calipers, the most widely used method of estimating percent body fat in the fitness field. Food of the Month 5 points March 4, April 8 Near the, just outside the Assisi Conference Room Stop by our table for a sample of our dietitian s healthy food choice of the month! 1/15 6

Healthy Bites Luncheon 20 points First Thursday of each month EXCEPT in January January 8, February 5, March 5, April 2 12:10-12:40 pm Health and Wellness Center Conference Rooms 1 and 2 Various health professionals lead this monthly program discussing a variety of health-related topics. It is also open to the public. Call x5399 to find out the upcoming topics/speakers. Healthy Eating on a Budget 20 points Thursday, March 19 4:30-5:30 pm Pre-registration requested! Call x5940 Shopping for healthy groceries can be hard on your pocketbook. Join our dietitian to learn some tips on how to save money while still eating healthy! 5 points (maximum 60 points) Every Wednesday, Hallway outside Assisi Conference Room This is a weekly weigh-in for anyone trying to lose or maintain weight. You will be provided with a new health tip each week to help keep you on track. First and Third Wednesdays of each month, Health and Wellness Center Conference Room 2 Blood pressure check 5 points (maximum of 25 points) Cholesterol and blood sugar test 15 points Results in minutes!! Blood pressure checks are free of charge; cholesterol and blood sugar tests require a small fee (and 10-12 hour fast). How to Start an Exercise Program 25 points Thursday, January 15, noon Monday, February 9, 1 pm Friday, March 20, noon Wednesday, April 8, 11 am This program is ideal for those who are sedentary or are just beginning to exercise. This class may be taken for partial credit under the Exercise portion of the Healthy Rewards goals, or you may use the 25 points for the Wellness portion. 1/15 7

Low Stress Diet 20 points Friday, January 2, noon Friday, February 13, 7:30 am Thursday, March 12, Pre-registration is required! Call x5940 Dr. Luke Seaward s presentation (presented by our wellness dietitian) will reveal important links between nutrition and stress. He offers many straightforward nutrition guidelines and simple tips that will help employees boost their immune systems so they can combat the negative impacts of stress and even reverse its harmful effects. Nutrition Pop Quiz 5 points Thursday, April 23, 11:30 am Located outside the kitchen by the dietitian s office How much do you really know about the food you eat? Test your nutrition knowledge with our registered dietitian. SideStepping Diabetes 25 points Wednesday, January 21, noon Friday, February 20, noon Wednesday, March 11, 7:15 am Monday, April 27, 4:30 pm Pre-registration is required! Call x5316 With early detection and lifestyle change, you can reduce your risk of developing diabetes. Come learn how! This class is offered once per month; it will be the same information each month. This class may be taken for partial credit under the Diabetes portion of the Healthy Rewards goals if you have glucose/hgba1c levels outside the recommended range, or you may use the 25 points for the Wellness portion. 20 points Tuesdays and Thursdays in January, February and March Tuesdays, Thursdays, Pilates Studio (first floor of the Health and Wellness Center) Join us for these 30-minute stretch sessions led by certified Pilates instructors. Feel free to wear your work clothes or you may change into exercise attire. TLC (Therapeutic Lifestyle Change) 25 points Thursday, February 19, noon Thursday, March 12, 5 pm Wednesday, April 22, 8:15 am Does your heart need a little TLC? It may if you have high cholesterol or other risk factors for heart disease. TLC helps you take small steps that can result in big changes by lowering your risk for heart disease. This class is offered once per month; it is the same information each month. This class may be taken for partial credit under the Cholesterol portion of the Healthy Rewards goals if you have cholesterol levels outside the recommended ranges, or you may use the 25 points for the Wellness portion. 1/15 8

Classes Fridays, January 9 to February 13, noon (Health and Wellness Conference Room) Wednesdays, March 4 to April 1, (Heart Hospital Conference Room) These classes are for tobacco users (support persons are welcome). Classes last approximately 40 minutes. Weight-Wise 25 points Wednesday, January 21, 11 am Thursday, February 19, 1 pm Thursday, March 26, 5 pm Wednesday, April 15, 12:15 pm An introductory class covering the basics of nutrition and weight loss. Learn how to set small weight loss goals, monitor your progress, track your eating and more! This class may be taken for partial credit under the Body Weight portion of the Healthy Rewards goals if your initial BMI is greater than 25 (along with keeping a food diary, explained in the class), or you may use the 25 points for the Wellness portion. Wellness on Wheels 5 points January: Throw Out Your Stress February: Fall in Love with Your Workplace March: March Out the Madness April: April Showers... Wash Away Your Worries Watch out for Wellness on Wheels as we roll through the Medical Center on various Monday mornings. These will be opportunities for employees and their co-workers to de-stress or stress less. Instruction provided from the Wellness Wagon. Wellness Walks 15 points Fridays, January 16, February 20, March 20, April 17 11:30 am-1 pm (walk as long as you like) Fitness Plus track (meet by the Wellness Office) Take part of your lunch break to burn off some calories (and stress!). You do not need to be a Fitness Plus member to participate in these Wellness Walks. Small prizes awarded. 1/15 9

Friday, March 13 Healthy Recipe Contest 50 points In honor of National Nutrition Month, the Wellness Department is inviting our employees and/or spouses to submit AND prepare their best healthy recipe. Individuals can submit up to one original recipe for entry to our contest by email between February 24 and March 6 to registered dietitian Janet Anders, RD, LD, at janders@sfmc.net. We will make copies of your recipe to share at the judging (TASTING!!) on March 13. Dish drop-off will be 11-11:30 am, and judging will begin at 11:30 am. Our team of VITs (Very Important Tasters) will choose an overall winner and two runners-up to receive fabulous prizes. In addition, every participant who submits a recipe and brings their dish to be judged in the contest on March 13 will receive 50 WELLNESS POINTS!!
