Third Year Residents Shirin enjoys going out into the community and meeting new people. She also enjoys teaching students and volunteering in the community. She is a mentor with the Junior Youth Empowerment Program where she focuses on empowering youth to become active agents of positive change in their communities. She is dedicated to concentrating her energies, skills, and time to helping young patients achieve excellent oral health. Dr. Shirin Mullen at an education event Wendy loves to help make dentistry a possibility for all kids. From research in Honduras to outreach in the inner-cities of San Francisco and Chicago, there will be no child left behind But the best part of it is seeing the lights go on in a child s mind and their enthusiasm to learn, or simply smiles, hugs, and besos from the kids we met along the way. None of it would have happened without the guidance and support from alumni like you Drs. Carrie Tsai (left) and Wendy Yang (right) on a clinical research trip to Roatan, Honduras. Niki has executed several projects to improve life at UC. She has improved the esthetics of this clinic by purchasing decorations for the operatories and clinic for the holidays. She has planned and hosted events which bring the residents together. Her annual Christmas party is greatly anticipated She has also created a wall of memories on our bulletin boarddisplaying different activities and events we have participated in. She definitely gives this residency style Drs. Niki Fallah and Gina Graziani at Give Kids A Smile Day. 3

Josh was selected by the predoctoral student body as 2013 Faculty of the Year at the UCSF Community Dental Center, where he teaches and provides restorative dentistry and exodontia to members of substance abuse programs. His research on vital pulp therapies recently won the 1st place award for 2014 Best Scientific Poster from the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry; he was also selected as a top 8 finalist to present his findings at this year's AAPD annual session. Dr. Joshua Connolly at the CSPD Poster Session. Second Year Residents Alex has been an active participant in CSPD, patient advocacy and global health research. She served as the Warren Brandli intern to the CSPD board of directors and published an article in the Winter Bulletin. She was recently accepted into the Global Health Clinic Scholars Pathway program and has attended externships in the Philippines, Cambodia and Guatemala. She also went to Washington DC to act to lobby on behalf of our patients Dr. Alex Malebranche on a global health externship in Cambodia. Will is extremely excited to be part of the UCSF family, he believes that he brings an enthusiasm and energy that is seen by his colleagues and patients. It is his goal that wherever he is that the education and skills he has received represent UCSF well Dr. Will Liou at a community outreach event. 4

Her diverse background enables her to connect with patients and their family in a more meaningful way and deliver effective, wellrounded healthcare. Her research at UCSF focuses on evaluating the efficacy of text messages to educate parents about caries prevention methods for their children. Dr. Amita Ruehe in clinic with a happy patient. We residents are working hard to make UC and the San Francisco Bay Area a better place.
