3rd Annual Orlando Live EUS 2015 Overview The 3rd Annual Orlando Live EUS 2015 will have six components to provide participants a comprehensive education in endosonography. Diagnostic EUS Procedures will be demonstrated using the station-based approach for identification of normal structures and pathology, using both the radial and linear array echoendoscopes. Mediastinal, pancreaticobiliary and upper and lower gastrointestinal system examinations will be taught in a structured format. Live demonstration sessions will specifically target challenging diseases, such as pancreatic cysts and masses in the setting of chronic pancreatitis. The latest technology will be demonstrated so that participants are aware of the various options available for performing diagnostic examinations of the different organ systems. EUS-FNA and Cytopathology The key to success of an EUS program is providing the best-quality samples in the most efficient manner. Proper selection of needles based on location of lesions, adapting evidence-based techniques when performing FNA maneuvers and appropriate processing of specimens based on the presence or absence of an onsite cytopathologist are factors that determine outcomes for EUS-FNA. Centers with onsite cytopathology access: Several studies have shown that the diagnostic sensitivity of EUS-FNA is strongly associated with the availability of onsite cytopathology services. While it is important to provide an adequate quantity of representative material, steps must be taken to provide the best-quality specimens. Participants will be educated on the best techniques to procure specimens with minimal bloodiness. This will include appropriate needle selection and education on the optimal specimen processing techniques. Centers without onsite cytopathology services: For centers that do not have access to onsite cytopathology, the key to success is in providing adequate amounts of material to assure an accurate diagnosis. Knowing the basics of cytopathology will enable the endosonographer to provide optimal specimens that can yield a definitive diagnosis. Participants will be educated about cell block, core biopsy, accessories used to procure core specimens, the medium required to collect core specimens, and most importantly, how to use a microscope and assess for specimen adequacy. Interventional EUS Using a stepwise approach, the different techniques to perform celiac plexus interventions, pseudocyst drainages and fiducial placements will be demonstrated. In addition, complex interventions, such as rendezvous and transluminal ductal drainages, will be taught to participants. In small-group sessions, participants will have an opportunity to interact with experts and learn the tips and tricks for successful procedural outcomes. Hands-on Workshop Limited slots are available for delegates to gain hands-on experience in the lab. The objective of this session is to teach participants to (a) handle specimens, (b) operate microscopes, (c) assess for on-site diagnostic sufficiency, (d) learn the different techniques of FNA (standard, fanning, core biopsy) and (e) perform EUSbased interventions (celiac plexus neurolysis, fiducial/coil placements, pseudocyst drainage). Didactic Sessions Breakfast sessions will provide an opportunity for participants to interact with expert faculty and gain first-hand knowledge in specific areas of interest. Luncheon sessions conducted by faculty will provide a comprehensive literature update on diagnostic and therapeutic EUS. The most recent and important publications in EUS literature will be reviewed in these sessions. Self-assessment Examination Interesting videos and cases will be presented in a quiz format. This will enable participants to self-evaluate their diagnostic interpretation skills and theoretical knowledge in endosonography.
