There are numerous partners of Active City from the public, private and voluntary sectors These include both of the professional football clubs in the City (Liverpool and Everton) Thousands of people now participate in sport, physical activity and sustainable health programmes as delivered by the Football Clubs (Power of the Badge) The Fire and Rescue Service (Fire Fit) NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG s)
Evaluation of Active City is undertaken by Liverpool John Moores University and has led to a Research Policy Delivery approach.
Since 2005 numerous local, regional, national and international events have taken place in the City with some of the highlights being: The European Capital of Culture with sport being at the heart of the programme World Cup of Judo European Senior Boxing Championships European Badminton Championships World Netball Series Davis Cup Tennis Ironman Triathlon The priorities for events include providing the greatest opportunity to connect the event with legacy programmes which inspire local citizens to engage with sport and physical activity as part of a sustainable lifestyle change Ironman Triathlon (2012)
Baseline in 2005 was that only 18.1% of adults in Liverpool were achieving activity targets. The figure is now 24% Around 50% of adults now achieving at least 1 x 30 minutes of physical activity, an increase of 19% since 2005 56,000 people now use the 12 x Lifestyles Leisure Centres (located in the most deprived communities in the City) an increase of 43% since 2005 91% of children are participating in regular sport and physical activity in schools, an increase of 35% since 2005 Liverpool is in the top 5 Municipalities in England in getting 89% of children able to swim at least 25 meters by the age of 11, an increase of 49% since 2005. New target is to make Liverpool the most active city in England by 2021 World Firefighter Games (2008)
In 2014 the Liverpool Active City Lead presented to an All-Party Commission of MP s in Parliament to outline the Liverpool model with a view to it being shared as a model of good practice Liverpool is a support City to The Association for International Sport for All (TAFISA) for programmes such as Triple AC (Active Cities, Active Communities, Active Citizens) and European Sport City Network (SCN) Developing ISO accredited standards

Active Play: Background The aims of this project were to: Increase children s physical activity levels Decrease sedentary time Improve skill levels Improve children s ability to play with confidence Empower teachers and practitioners to deliver Active Play Target - 3-5 year old children.
Active Play: Study 1 12 schools were involved, 240 children. 1 comparison group, 1 intervention group Intervention group: received full programme delivered by Active Play team, Comparison group received the Active Play pack. No change in physical activity or sedentary time. Children who attended preschool more were less active. Pre-school not as conducive to physical activity as other environments.
Active Play: Study 2 Family based version of the study 8 families involved Intervention group: received 10 week Active Play programme delivered by trained professionals including activity and educational components. Comparison group continued their usual routine. Increase in physical activity plus reduction in sedentary time. Parental sport participation/activity predicted sedentary time and physical activity in the children.
